Two and a duck, wings spread in tandem, like they premeditated the scene.
Black Cormorants are the biggest bird found in the Yarkon river, Weigh about 1.5-2.8Kg.
We see them here when migrating from northern-countries on late autumn and stay around till early spring.
Pic. taken along the Yarkon river bank on a pond, a WS from a diff. angle attached.

A clear and sharp picture of these birds with their wings spread open.
Also on the pic in the workshop they take the same position. Possibly they want to dry their feathers in the sun.
Beautiful with the rippled green river water on the background.
Best regards, Paul

a lovely and amusing scene against a backdrop of luminous, rippling reflections. It's like the two black cormorants are performing a dance to impress the duck but she isn't interested:) Sharpness is excellent and your angle has enhanced the sense of depth too. I like very much the layout of the scene, the chromatic contrast is wonderful. The workshop picture is unusual and lovely too. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

Good Morning Ike,
I do love the way these cormorants hold out their wings to dry! They look to be performing a well orchestrated duet!
You have captured their plumage details really well, the glossy, iridescent feathers catching the light beautifully.
A very well chosen, pov which gives a diagonal composition.
How sad that the duck is not impressed by their performance!
Have a lovely Sunday,

Black Cormorants are the foe of the fishermen in Belgium.
She eat almost everyday their own weight at fish.
Every lake here in my area become the Cormorants chased.
The open wings is for the heat of the sun.
Composition and presentation make these picture attractive.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice Sunday,

Great capture of this pair of cormorants flexing their wings. The tight crop concentrates the attention whilst the lighting is perfect to bring out the detail and nuances of tone in the plumage. The duck swimming away is a plus.

delightful shot of these two cormorants drying their wings. Fascinating birds that I can sit and watch on my river for hours. Strangely I never see them in pairs like this. Wonderfully captured and detailed image.
Enjoy your Sunday - B.

in una tua precedente foto che go commentato recentemente.
Ora hai fatto il bis con due cormorani e non solo...
Bella sia la scena che la composizione e la nitidezza che permette di osservare gli ucceli con molti dettagliu.
Molto belli anche i colori.
Ciao e buona domenica

Good observed and captured !
The cormorans are also one of the most dominant seabirds here in İstanbul. You can see them with wide opened wings like sunprayers on rocks .
TFS and have a nice weekend

The tight frame is putting the birds in evidence. The point of view is showing with precision the details and colours of the Cormorants. The good luminosity is making the colours to shine. Have a nice day.

Je n'entends pas leur chant mais c'est un beau duo bien capté dans un bel éclairage. Ils ont pris une belle pose pour toi. Ils sont bien mis en valeur devant un beau fond vert.
Toutes mes amitiés et bonne semaine,

These cormorants are drying their feathers Ike, they are highly skilled fishing birds diving to capture their prey, a duck is also visible on the left of the frame it doesn't eat the same food, good nature report, all the best, enjoy your sunday evening

Ike, just the other day I saw cormorants like this here in San Diego Bay and I was amazed by their friendliness, they were not scared by the human presence at all...nice and very natural picture and the duck is a great highlight!!
all the very best to you and today I have a big smiley for you!!
jcpix (9324) 2014-02-09 13:44
Smart birds, they surely must have known what you were up to with your camera and decided to put on a show. :) I'll give them credit too, it's quite an impressive display...in fact, it would appear as if they've rehearsed this routine. haha
The duck doesn't seem to be impressed though as he's swimming away in the opposite direction. Oh well, I guess the show's not for everyone, right? :) As with the previous picture of this Commorant, I love the strong colors and contrast...the rippled and slightly blurred background is a terrific accompaniment to the scene. Sharply detailed and well exposed. Have a great week ahead. Take good care.

I think those cormorants are showing off their muscles. I've seen them do that all the time. Good timing and capture with good details. Well done, tfs.
mcmtanyel (8235) 2014-02-09 16:58
An excellent zoom photo, congratulations on your steady hands that captured such a sharp photo w/o a tripod. Excellent timing, the cormorants look ready to hug the duck.
Waylim (24490) 2014-02-09 17:12
Very nice photo of these two cormorants with their wing open to draw like they are doing a synchronization dance. Love the water background with green reflections. Very nice details and good composition.
clic (13240) 2014-02-09 17:25
Were they chasing away the duck or displaying their bodies in a form of indecency to the indifferent bird?
In every instance, they form an attractive trio captured with subtle dark tones, which is very difficult to realize on black plumage.
Oceania (4082) 2014-02-10 7:33
These two birds seem like in a synchronizing dancing, very interesting. The duck on the river is a nice addition. Also, the color of the reflections on the water is very soothing. It's a very nice picture.
nikkitta (11170) 2014-02-10 15:06
Such charming and well seen capture, taken at the right moment when the two cormorans are in the same proud position as in the WS
Only place I saw these birds was in China
Well done , have a great week
Kamilutka (6719) 2014-02-10 23:02
you had absolutely professional models for this picture I must say :-) The cormorants obviously try to look their best spreading their wings in tandem. The duck however seems to be uninterested.
Very well captured moment and beauty of these lovely birds. Nice sharpness and pretty and natural colors.
I like this strong foreground and little duck completing the composition.
Thanks for sharing

delpeoples (50695) 2014-02-11 3:58
hehehe Evil twins ganging up on the lone duck. They really seem to be bullying the poor dick to get out of their territory. Beautiful colours and I like the light shining on their gleaming plumage. Well done.
UlfE (14599) 2014-02-11 12:17
Usually the most exciting bird photos are those where the birds are acting, swimming, flying, feeding fighting hunting etc. Here you have not only one acting bird but three. Repeated forms are also very attractive. Here not only the comorants are in tandem but also the the "things" on which they are sitting. Very well spotted. TFS and have a nice evening!
adramad (33590) 2014-02-12 8:17
A fascinating image, with this great picture of the cormorant, wings ready to take flight, you caught a great time, lovely duck picture, nothing like that was all around him, beautiful hue of the water as background ,
Superb lighting and the sharpness, which give an image with rich hues.
Well done. I love it.
Have a good day.
