Photographer's Note

This is a view of a section of the enormous wadi Ein Avdat, near the ancient Nabatean city of Avdat, now a UNESCO heritage site. The wadi hosts many different bird species, and ibex browse here. This view is taken looking more or less south towards the end of the wadi - there is a walking track that ends in a climb on stairs cut into the end of the wadi to the plateau at the top. The entrance is at Midreshet Ben Gurion, near Kibbutz Sde Boker. Its about 1 1/2 hours drive south of Beersheva.

Even in summer there is water in the pools, which of course fill up much more if there is rain in the region in winter.
