The old port of Ashkelon ancient town, 31.6615, 34.5424 on the map.
The "Columns Wall" on the waterfront, is the only remnants found.
Those granite pillars built to reinforce the port defending-wall by the Crusaders, and was exposed to sea-waves for the length of some 800 years.
Here is a web-page about it's conservation project.
*** A bit over-exposure on the beach area, aimed the target on the wall. It was high-noon when taken.

Hi Ike,the pic is a bit grained but exposed in a very professional way in these difficult and different light levels, very nice long perspective ad perfect colors, but now there are only ruins,i like to know something about the conservation project! Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

Good light management in the circumstances, though as Luciano says there is some evidence of graininess. Notwithstanding, an interesting composition from this historical site.

The distance between the culumns and the horizon is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is sjowing the details, the colors of the wall and of the culumns. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

You're capturing well this "Columns Wall" on the waterfront by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the fort faced to the sea with the stone wall and guns. It's also interesting to hear that those granite pillars built to reinforce the port defending-wall by the Crusaders.

a very lovely and interesting place for a walk, there's really a lot to enjoy. I like very much the depth and the perspective of this view, your composition is neat and comprehensive, the details and textures on the decaying wall look fascinating. I wonder if there's any work being done for its preservation or it's left alone against the test of time and elements -I'd better seek information on the link you provided, though:) Your lighting is well balanced and pleasing, the colours are well managed too. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,

non conoscevo questo luogo e questo tipo di difesa, molto interessante
Ottimo scatto, la differenza di luci è molto forte, ma hai esposto bene e il risultato è molto bello.

You may have taken this during one of the most difficult lighting conditions, but it turned out quite well in exposure balance. Plenty of detail in both sunlit and shaded areas. Such amazing history, it's always a pleasure to see pictures from your "back yard." :) A solid composition (no pun intended) that easily leads us out to the horizon as the details and wall itself is built upwards in this vertical format. Enjoy the new day. All the best.
mirosu (15302) 2014-05-18 20:36
Well captured old port stone walls and the seaside. All in very good light. You have nicely included the two visitors, adding some life to the scene.
Well done my friend.
eldancer1 (32033) 2014-05-19 6:33
It's amazing to see structures built hundreds of years ago still standing and if those walls can talk I'm they have some very interesting story to tell. I like your pov and glad that you included those fishermen for scale, I hope they caught some fish. Good lighting and nice details. Well done, tfs.
Kamilutka (8105) 2014-05-19 7:48
it is unbelievable sometimes how advanced was the building system in ancient world. These granite pillars made it probably last really long in the battle between the sea and the land. What a shame there is not much more left to see now. Ii like however how you presented this bit from lower POV and including discreetly some of the tourists. Nice colors, especially of the sea in the horizon.
Thanks for sharing and enjoy the evening

Nice, unique place.
Thanks for the interesting notes, I learn almost everyday on TE.

My dad used to say that noon is one of the worst times to take a photo. In spite of that, you managed the light quite well, congratulations.
I am happy to read that they are trying to preserve this ancient structure.
PS. One full day before we fly, I can't wait!
emka (86409) 2014-05-19 23:55
Hello Ike, Interesting view of the ancient ruins. The columns look rather like guns. Difficult light onditions but you did very well.
Warm regards Malgo
adramad (40642) 2014-05-20 12:25
A vertical composition, which allows us to see very well these columns centuries, remains of the old harbor, besides the beach, with a view of the blue sea and the distant horizon line. That gives great DOF to the composition.
Very nice colorful tones very effective.
Good management of light and good sharpness.
Splendid image. My compliments.
Have a nice day.
nikkitta (16758) 2014-05-22 14:48
Very interesting note and capture of a so old, plenty of history stone walls and columns
Good composition with great contrast with the sea, it doesn t matter a bit of over exposure, that way we can see details of the wall
Didi (59066) 2014-05-23 1:56
Interesting perspective of the wall nice deep foreground
The lights are strong
clic (16074) 2014-05-23 5:54
Those relics of years ago constitute a towering protective work scaled by the two guys bending over, seen at upper left.
The three columns set in the wall can be mistaken for cannons aimed at the sea!
Much interesting piece of history.
jemaflor (89385) 2014-05-23 11:20
Interesting ruines, well captured and presented with these strong contrast of light and these shades, good depth result.
elenimavrandoni (14209) 2014-06-11 18:12
Ike, an interesting point of view, a remarkable and ancient place with the few ruins standing to remind its history...the sea looks fascinating!!
regarding my last post...yes I took the picture from inside the window..all windows on high rises are closed and they don't open..but the picture was so nice, I didn't want to miss it...(nice catch!!!)
jmdias (58940) 2014-06-25 17:56
in the miniature looks like cannons pointed to the sea. very interesting use of these columns to make the walls more strong. nice vertical view.
ChrisJ (104209) 2014-07-20 6:34
The sewer or drain water pipes add interest and repetition. Good sharpness and natural perspective provided by the receding shoreline. Excellent shadow detail and the 2 fishermen are nicely placed near the vanishing point. Tfs!

An excellent shot documenting this historic site so effectively and made all the more interesting by your detailed intro, so thank you for that. I like the way you see things; you know whenever I see ancient ruins, castles, buildings etc it always makes me think about that period of time, what it would of looked like, how the people dressed, worked, the colours, the aromas and much much more.. etc etc..
Really like the comp in this and the details work well, adequately exposed and decently coloured. Love the fact that the jutting out canon-like granite pillars on the defensive walls actually strike the eye first and subsequently make us hover around the pic, and great that I love those 'artifacts' lying around are still preserved and undisturbed.
A nice collection of ancient stonework Ike, but at least the visitors in your pics are not so ancient :))
Great capture and tx for sharing this excellent shot, Congrats.

Bonjour, cher Ike,
Vestiges du temps qui passe et qui ne semblent pas inquiéter outre mesure les responsables du patrimoine.
Heureusement, c'est un musée à ciel ouvert.
