The Golan Heights were taken by Israel from Syria in the 1967 6-Day War. Heavy fighting took place again in 1973, in the Yom Kippur War.
Syria and Israel still contest the ownership of the Heights but have not used overt military force since 1974. There have been several rounds of negotiations, but there has been disagreement on the conditions for withdrawal. The great strategic value of the Heights both militarily and as a source of water means that a deal is uncertain.
The region is known for its vineyards and apple orchards. A significant part of the apple production is actually exported to Syria since 2005, and this is the only trade taking place between both countries.
Probably the yellow and white containers are used to store and carry apples - but they'll have to wait until the harvest season, in the summer.
In the background - Mt Hermon. |

Beauty and the beast here. Those horrible plastic crates with their shockingly man made colours contrast wonderfully with the natural colours around them. A very strong image.
Nice work, PHIL
not bad, not bad at all...
simple title would indicate some other "action" but when the photo opens up to the full size the yellow boxes pop out aggressively and deform the mountainscape (in a positive sense)...

Hi Daniel
Somehow the plastic crates do not belong there, but they are & their colour contrasts do brighten up the shot. The setting is beautiful with the snowcapped Mt.hermon in the BG. Intersting & good!
Best Regards
Angshu
Hi Daniel,
An informative note, a nice image of Mount Hermon under a beautiful sky wnich is framed by the containers and trees in the foreground. The pointy of view is giving depth to photo. It is receiving a good luminosity which brings out the colors. The picture is clear and precise.
