Photographer’s Note
The 2nd of August marked a new twist in the events that have been occurring in
Iraq, with the coordinated suicide car bombings of 4 churches in Baghdad alone.
This is a photo of the event that occurred at the Assyrian Catholic Church located in the Karada distric of Baghdad which is only a few hundred meters from the Palestine Hotel where I stay. 11 people in total lost their lives in the coordinated attacks in Baghdad and Iraq.
Clockwise, starting on the right: the front view of the church, undamaged by the blast; the left-rear of the church, damaged wall, the severed undercarriage of "the bomb" and another burned out vehicle; the residence across the street more severely damaged than the church itself and the residents that survived.
