[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a scene from the Festival of Maxmur Camp last year.
Maxmur Camp is a camp for Kurdish refugees:

"The Turkish government’s campaign against any and all expressions of Kurdish identity throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s is common knowledge. Village burning and forced deportation were key elements of this campaign, resulting in the creation of a large but undocumented number of Kurds who became refugees in their own homeland.
...
Maxmur is a camp containing thousands of Kurds who were expelled from their homes by the Turkish regime and may very well face harassment, torture, or disappearance if they ever attempt to return to their homes. "

The "Festīvala Mexmūr" is made to remind the inhabitants on their displacement in the 1980/90ies

Hi Ferhat,

Ended up looking through you gallery this morning and was really grabbed by this one .. the emotions and thoughts .. of your note and their faces .. combined with the soft intensity of the concentration on their musicianship makes for an incredibly effective image.

take care,

John

Fehrat jan,

The saz is actually my favorite instrument and I love how you took a picture of a beautiful Kurdish girl playing such a beautiful instrument. I wonder if she can play songs by Ahmet Kaya? Well anyways wonderful photograph.
