Photographer’s Note
A view of the Qeshm city from an opening in the Portuguese castle. The Portuguese Castle, built in 1609 AD in the north-east of Qeshm island under the decree of the contemporary Spanish monarch. The castle has two ramparts & towers in the four corners. Within the castle I saw 2 extremely ancient & rusty cannons still remained. It should be mentioned that the Portuguese had captured southern islands of Iran since 1507 AD for more than one century till Emam-Gholi Khan (a famous Iranian-Georgian general serving the Safavid empire) defeated them away in 1622 AD.
From the opening you can see the city windtowers. Windtowers are the main feature of central & southern Iranian architecture used as air ventilators or coolers in the buildings.
