Photographer’s Note
Saffron is a spice derived from the flower of the saffron crocus, a species of crocus in the family Iridaceae. Saffron, for decades is the world's most expensive spice by weight and is native to Southwest Asia particularly Iran and its eastern province of Khorasan. Saffron is marked by a bitter taste and an iodoform- or hay-like fragrance; these result from the chemicals picrocrocin and safranal. If you visit bazaars in Iran you simply find saffron on sale. I captured this shot in Mash-had. Strange enough Woody, sitting on the bulk of saffron, is watching the passer byes.
