Photographer’s Note
Another attraction of the Qeshm Island is the Kharbas (Khurbez) Caves . At a distance of 10 km from the city of Qeshm there is a mountain overlooking the Persian Gulf, and on the verge of a hollow bowl-shaped land. There are several caves which were formed naturally more than 2800 years ago due to receding of the water level and leaving cavities behind.
The caves dated back to the Median Empire (728-550 BC). Some believe this to be the place of worship of the Mithraism cult or the Anahita Temple (Pre-Zoroastrian goddess and Zoroastrian angel of water & fertility).
One of the corridors of these caves are seen in this shot and I found it interesting to see the relief of the Noah Ark on the wall . The word Noah in Farsi ( نوح ) is visible in the FG on the right and then the ark and some of the animals inside it to the end of the corridor.
An exterior view of the caves is available in the WS.

Hi Atousa, a very interesting pic. You were great to take it, I think it wasn't easy with that poor light. Anyway, DOF is excellent and colors too.
Congratulations!

Amazing piece of ancient artwork, no doubt being well preserved thanks to the cave and not being exposed to the outside elements. Very well captured with good use of the perspective to lead the eye down the corridor. Well done

A very interesting post & very informative as well. Thanks for the outside view in the WS which gives us the idea how the caves look from outside. I was not aware of Noah's Ark being depicted in other cultures & that's a revelation for me. Good handling of light & fine perspective here.
Best Regards

Hello Atousa,
This is a fascinating image, complemented by a surpassing note. I'm a professor of physics, and originally from Turkey. But for years I've been peripherally involved, as the "cautious scientific advisor," on a number of projects in search of Noah's Ark. In 1984 I even accompanied an expedition (with the US astronaut who went to the moon) in search of Noah's Ark. While not subscribing for a minute to a model of the earth with an age of only a few thousand years, I do believe that most biblical stories have some basis in historical events. There is no way that the seas would have topped Mt. Ararat, the traditional site of the Ark, a few thousand years ago. But an excellent candidate for a "universal flood" has emerged in the flooding of the Black Sea basin about 8,000-10,000 years ago.
This is a fabulous shot, and I would love to use it in some of my Power Point talks about the expedition to Mt. Ararat. I plan to put this image among my favorites, as soon as I can open some space.
Warm regards,
Bulent
