Shushtar is one of the ancient cities of Iran which has been concerned by the governmental dynasties through the history.

Having dams, Weirs, dam-bridges, water conveyance canals, watermills and many other historical water structures, Shushtar became as a museum of water control establishments.

2000 years old Darion Cananl and Shadervan Dam-Bridge,Mizan Weir and Gargar Canal which belong to 1500 years of ago and the other historical water establishments bring out Shushtar as a valuable treasury of historical water monuments.

Gargar Weir and Shushtar Watermills are located 600 m. downstream of Mizan Weir. The crest is 50 m. long, with an altitude of 20 m. This weir doesn’t have any gates or water intake. The water passes through the tunnels which have been excavated at the upper part of the mountains at the both sides.

The number of these tunnels are three which have been excavated through the rocks. The longest one is 100 m. These tunnels after passing through the weir are divided into some branches which led water to the inclined shoots of more than 50 watermills. The elevation difference between upstream and downstream created beautiful water falls in front of the weir. Those waterfalls cause Shushtar to become a beautiful sight seeing for tourists. The ex-general secretary of UNESCO highly appreciated during his first visit to those watermills and called them as the first man-made industrial complex before industrial revolution.

Hi Atousa!
Beautiful place and there are really many waterfalls, seems a curious old place. Good pov including also the village at the top. Good colours, sharpness and also a good note. It's not common to see photos of this nice place.

Salam Atousa
Beautiful picture and amazing place .two years ago I went there ,I think if your point of view was from downstream towards upstream you could show alot more waterfalls .Extremly useful note.
Regards
Ali

Hi Atousa,

Very important note you have here. It tells all the stories that one needs to learn from this place. This is a very beautiful historical place. This is what I call learning the world through photography.

As for the picture, you shoot from a very great angle, showing great detail. The thing that I want to talk about here is the lighting. The light is so strong here, making the picture look a little less romantic. So what you need to do is to wait till the evening where the sun just about to set. So it will give good light to this picture. Also early in the morning when the sun just about to rise, and you will also have good light too.

Well done showing us this great historical place. Keep it up,

Sothy

Salam Atousa,
A very interesting place, very well photographed. You did a remarkable job with the compo. I'd say that you were either very lucky with the POV or you looked very carefully for the more advantageous place to shoot. The light didn't help you much - not that it is bad, but I suspect that the image would gain much punch if shot early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
I think it is a bit pale, so I did a WS; I hope you don't mind.
Regards, José.

Salam Atousa.
Very interesting place and your note puts into perspective the march of civilization and shows how much Persia contributed to human progress. What impresses me is the high level of human endeavor and thought that went into the constructions- all concentrated in this area.Great PoV and excellent details.regards. Klaudio.

Hi Atousa,
It is amazing how the ancient civilization has harness the power of water, and yet that knowledge is still being used in the modern times. It is a grand scene with the mighty river and the ancient structures well preserved. Well captured and composed. Well done! tfs

Renier

Hi Atousa,

Wonderful note .. striking place ...your point of view gives us great scale .. I love the exposure as well. Just as a purely personal preference I think you should try some Neutral Density filtered slow exposures here.
Very nice image.

take care,

John

Bonjour Atousa
Your note is well illustrated and showing well this place with the water falls, cliffs and the village perched on top of it. POV is well chosen and there is a good sense of depth. Maybe, I would have add more contrast to the image to give more impact...
Have a nice day

Hello Atousa,

This looks like a very interesting place, and so rich with history. I like the lighting hitting the right side of the frame, allowing us to see the cliffs in detail.
