An iranian couple proudly admiring their ancient heritage at Taq-e Bostan.

I discussed a bit with them after, they were very happy that a foreigner had come a long way to see the beautiful statues of Taq-e Bostan. I sure would have travel even further to see these impressive sculptures!

Taq-e Bostan is a sassanid site set at the foot of a mountain just outside Kermanshah. Two grottoes ("taq" in persian) and a low-relief have been carved; this is the main grotto. The identification of the kings represented here is uncertain, but it is usually said that the knight in full battle armour is Khosrau II, a very famous hunter and conquerer, riding his legendary horse Shabdiz. The three characters of the coronation scene over him are from left to right: the goddess Anahita pouring libation, and unidentified king, and Ahuramazda giving the king the ring of power.

This kind of representation and massive style of sculpture is unique in all sassanid empire. There is even better to see on the side walls, that will be my next post...

cool shot , specialy the couple ... it just gave to ur shot a cool atmosphere :)
If i were you I would have shot the frame a lil bit wider so I would have the whole taq ;)

and about the statue . Khosru II , who was one of the most famous kings of Sasanian age can be called one of the most powerful & most stupid kings of Iran ...
He brought back lots of Iranian lost lands ( Egyt , Syria , Libnan , Turkey , All of Armenia ) back to Iranian map but lost them in a glance cause of his stupid pride ... He didnt accept the peace tready of East Roma which contained keeping his new lands & reciving lots of gold ... He wanted their capital & with a big trick he failed !!! After long battles Iranian army was sick of war & some diseases started weaking the army ...He was imprisoned @ the end & killed by his own son .

thanks for sharing ...

Shahab.
