Travels on the Silk Road: Orumieh Salt lake
The ancient Silk Road passed from Trebzon/Turkey to Täbris/Iran and passed through Orumieh at the lake of the same name. The picture has been taken on Gamichi island.

The lake has a high sodium salt concentration, floating crystals indicate saturation, the shores are covered with a salt crust. The only living things in the water are a Diatomean alga and a crustacean, Artemia salina.

This slide had to be scanned, the picture processed in Photoshop (getting rid of a grainy sky by blurring; straightening; colour correction; stamping out smudges; sharpening of the lower half; increasing saturation by 12% to compensate for loss when reducing size).

Hi Dietrich,

Very nice picture. I like it for the angel and the colors. One can see two different tones of similar coloprs on the two sides and the land in between creats lovely contrast.
