Travels on the Silk Road: Aras valley
The Aras valley is not part of the ancient Silk Road but had to be crossed when Täbris had to be reached coming from Georgia and Armenia. Today it is accessible only through an Iranian military road. 2800 years ago the valley was part of the Urartu empire. There seems to be a debate of interpretation whether according to Genesis Noah's Arch had landed on "Mountain Ararat" or in the "mountains of Urartu", for instance here.

Very rare and beautiful picture Dear Dietrich. This Silk Road pictures are very informative and offer great opportunity to know the relatively unknown region. Great shot with great colors and DOF.

Hallo Dietrich,
