Silk Road: Aras valley
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Travels on the Silk Road:
The Aras valley leads the traveller from Armenia to Tabris in Iran. The occasional Armenian church or, as in this picture, rests of such churches remind the traveller that churches, mosques and Zoroastrian sites coexist since centuries in Iran. You see Nakheirchi (=sheperd's) chapel near Jolfa here. The Aras valley is depopulated today because it had served as a closed border to the Soviet Union since 1920. The relations between Iran, Armenia and Azerbaijan have improved to a point where the Aras valley could become once more what it was: a part of the modern Silk Road, a side branch through Armenia.
The slide was scanned, the scan treated in PS: the sky blurred to remove grain; smudges removed with the stamp; sharpened; saturation increased by 12% to compensate for loss while reducing the format. |

Hi Dietrich,
This is as peaceful as it gets. Love the ruins, the stones and the solitude.

Hallo Dieter,
mal wieder ein schönes und interessantes Foto einer bizarren Landschaft. Weißt du wieviele Armenier es im Iran gibt?

Hello Dietrich,
Thanks for this real rare photo of armenian church.
As I understand this ruin located not far from well-known demolished old armenian cemetery but on another side. I've never seen so good photo of this church.
Thanks again,
Alexander
