Silk Road: Aras valley
 |

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Travels on the Silk Road:
The Aras river flows from Turkey and separates Iran, Azerbaijan and Armenia to end up in the Caspi Sea. It forms a phantastic colorful canyon of 200 km length. There is a closed military road on the Iran side and a derelict railway track on the Nakhichevan/Azerbaijan and Armenian side (you see a railway tunnel to the left). As innocent bicyclists we got a permission to use the military road to Jolfa/Iran! Thanks again, you military guards for your hospitality.
This is a scanned slide. I had to work it in PS, blur the sky, sharpen it.
The pic has lost some saturation in the posting process, so I repost it in a workshop. You decide which is better! |

Hello Dieter,
So this is on the Iranian side ? And the other side is perhaps Armenia a little bit east of Meghri town ? I believe to remember that railway tunnel (but I was on the other side some years ago). In my eyes also this was a really beautiful valley.
Thanks for sharing (as for the workshop i would prefer something in between)
I prefer this version, not the one with increased saturation, which is excessive.
Great contrast in the size of the cyclist and the mountains on the background. Pity that the tunnel is almost cropped out.

Hallo Dieter!
Frank
fascinating site for a dream trip, the shot has very good light and fresh colors!
