Photographer’s Note
Rayen Citadel is an adobe castle in Kerman province, Iran. This historical site is situated in the south-west of Rayen city and is considered the biggest earthen structure of Kerman province after Bam Citadel which was destroyed in an earthquake a few years ago ( December 2003 ). The monument dates back to the Sassanid era and covers a 20,000-square-meter area, remaining a symbol of the residential fortresses during the ancient times. Just like other fortresses, it consists of the public quarter and the aristocratic zone. The essential sectors such as Zoor khaneh (gymnasium for a traditional Persian sport), mosque, and stable can be seen in the citadel. Adobe is the main material used in its construction and the castle was inhabited until 150 years ago.
The facade of the aristocratic zone of the castle is seen in this shot and in the WS you can see another view of it including a part of the public quarter.

Hi Atousa,
A very different style of this impressive fortress. The person standing alone in the opening adds life to the picture. An interesting photo with a good note, a true TE contribution!
Kind regards

Hello Atousa,
This is an impressive adobe facade with its wide and high walls. Your perfectly taken photo excellently shows its smooth surface in very good clarity and sharpness. I liked your skillful way too for adding a visitor to the scene for scaling your view perfectly and the contrasts created by white stripes around entrance. The motifs at top of facade are wonderful under shining sky. Congratulations.
Friendly Regards,

Hello Atousa,
Your note gives excellent historical perspective to this citadel. I remember well the horrific earthquake that destroyed the Bam Citadel, not to mention thousands of lives. Are the wall covered in stucco, beyond the actual building material of the clay?
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hello Atousa, It is amazing, clay, sand, water & maybe some sticks or something similar & after all this time it is standing, now they don't seem to be able to make building last anywhere near that long. Very impressive building, captured in good colour & excellent detail, I think you may have had a difficult choice on which version to post, this or WS version, hope you don't mind me saying but I prefer the WS one, same excellent quality but for me it shows more of this interesting castle, I can the wall, tower & some of the public quarter.
Thanks for showing both & your informative note.
Regards

True this is a bit dark, but yet we can see some details on the walls. The compo. is well done in a diagonal. The wider view in WS helps us understand the place...Well done!

Salam Atousa,
Once again, a very rare image that I get to see from your gallery, something that I only get to see in pictures and movies, and sometimes I don't know just how real it is and coming from you, it like being told a story by the person in the story itself. Beautiful shot with nice colors and the only thing is missing are the green stuff, which is what is missing much in the desert land and therefor give a great essence and the authenticity of the place. Thank you.

Woah. I had a dream about 6 months go that took place in this VERY location - but I've never seen it until right now in your photograph. Goosebumps!
From a photography standpoint, I like the perspective you've chosen here. Although you may have cropped the top and bottom of the image a little too tightly for my preference.
Best from California :)

Salaam Atousa,
An amazing place! It's unbelievable how such an adobe structure resisted so well all those centuries. I like the POV here, it's very effective to present the grandiosity of the place. I also admire the light management in such a difficult situation. Unlike some, I like those white clouds shining behind the walls. The WS is also a great photo, you exploited well the graphics of the architecture besides being a good complement to the presentation of the castle.
Regards,
José
