Photographer’s Note

I took the shot in the grand bazaar ( =market ) of Kerman almost 4 hours before our new year ( Nowruz ) started. The shops were being closed one by one and it seemed some people were in a hurry to do their last shopping and get back to the home waiting for that special moment of change; all but the travelers who had enough time and were not going to reach home on time to be with their family members!

One of the most important reasons for establishment of Kerman City is its location as a cross road. From long time ago, this city has been one of the important locations that connect west to east and north to south of Iran. Such a specification has had a remarkable influence on construction and development of the bazaar. As a result, the commercial axis and city plan have been designed based on the main commercial lines.

Bazaar of Kerman has been built through different periods lasting one thousand years and it has been and is the liveliest location in the city and has had and has a great influence culturally, economically and socially. The bazaar comprises of various rows or alleys such as Arg, Ganj Ali Khan, Ekhtiyari, Sardari, Vakil, Attari, Qadam Gah and Mozaffari rows. Any part of this bazaar had been constructed during the rules of one of the commander or rulers in this territory.
In the shops of this row-seen in the shot- they mostly sell the objects and dishes made of copper both in old and new designs.
