Paphos Sunset - Cyprus

The most easterly island in the Mediterranean is Cyprus. The rugged west coast of the island along the Akamas Peninsula offers many opportunities for good photography. Here I captured some of that outstanding natural beauty that makes this west coast so special and because Cyprus averages 340 days of sunshine a year capturing the sun touching down on the horizen is often possible.

I used two lee ND filters 0.6 & 0.9 to tame the face of the sun. One of the problems I had on this trip was that my travel tripod was rubbish, just not up to the job on some shots (replacement ordered). The other problem I had was well...out of 14 days I had two days with my camera before it died :(

Hope you enjoy this series:

Hi Stephen,
I find this shot more biblical. the vignetting effect added some attraction to the angelic color of the sun. next time, please bring a space, i like to see more of your shots..
Regards
Miguel.

Stephen,
I really like the effect of the long exposure on the splashing water. The lighting and colors are outstanding as is the sharpness and detail. The low POV is very effective showing the power of the water and making the rocks look dominate. The sunset is captured nicely as well.
TFS,
Asa

nice and colorful shot

hi Stephen,
sorry to hear about your problems, must've been incredibly frustrating to be in such a great place and see the camera fail. but at least you have this photo, fantastic view! this must be the exact place where Aphrodite was born :) superb light management, I like a lot the contrast between the explosion of the light on the horizon and rough stones in the foreground. excellent work, my compliments.

with kind regards,
Kristine

Beautiful shot! The sky is just amazing in this, and for some reason the clouds there seem to match the size and shape of the rocks. Good time on the exposure too, long enough to show some motion blur, but short enough to give some shape and definition to the water. Excellent work, and sorry to hear about your camera.

Hi Steve
very nice shot. I like how focus the orange tones are on the clouds while the lower part of the image is more in a blueish. the water effect is fantastic as usual. Very nice compo, with good dof and sharpness
have a nice weekend
