BŁyŁk Han in Lefkoşa (aka Turkish Nicosia) is the largest caravansarai on the island of Cyprus and is considered to be one of the finest buildings on the island. BŁyŁk Han (Great Inn) was among the earliest (1572) Ottoman public works following the conquest; it became the first city prison under British administration, but reverted in 1893 to a hostel for destitute families, something more like its original role. Each of the guest rooms in the upper arcade, now (like the lower ones) partly occupied by various artisans' shops, was originally heated by fireplaces. A little Mescit (Islamic chapel), seen on the right, balances on six columns over its own "şadirvan", or ablutions fountain, a design seen elsewhere only in Turkey. The building spent the period 1992 - 2002 being restored, and now is home to arts and crafts outlets and a restaurant. It is a beautiful place.

Hello Will ,
I suppose that it was not easy to take a picture of this interesting building : to find the best perspective and to manage the contrasted lights . you've done it very well . I like especially the architectural details on the left , the beautiful red bougaivilea , the splendid pavement , and the smiling woman in black on the right .

Thank you for these extensive notes on something that is completely new to me. Your photograph and notes make a complete package. Isn't this what TE is all about!
Your shot is very well balanced, creating its own boundaries to contain the viewers' scrutiny. I like how the strong, stone column anchors the f/g, and begins the lead around the periphery. The features are sharp, with excellent textural details.
The lady, strongly positioned, adds human interest to the scene.
My warm regards,

I am full of admiration for the way that you have handled the contrast between the light and shadow areas of this nicely composed shot, nothing blocked up or burnt out,not easy in such a bright light,I just wonder if you could have waited a second or two to allow the lady to enter into the sunlight.. She does appear to be an interesting subject.
All the best Les.

I just considered Cyprus for the holidays this year but I think it will not happen so I can at least watch it in you photos. Very nice composition with well lit foreground. The woman in the scarf adds a very nice touch as well.
Have a great weekend,
