Yesterday the European Union decided to open accession negotiations with Turkey. In my opinion a big step forward for us all and a very positive sign in a world with more than its fair share of war and strife. A condition is that Turkey recognises Cyprus. This will open the way for the reunification of Cyprus after thirty years of Turkish occupation of the northern part of the island. The beautiful seaport of Kyrenia was a gem already in ancient times and famous throughout the middle ages, and deserves to be visited by more than the few tourists who venture into the occupied part these days. And it has only been possible to cross the demarcation line from the south since Cyprus joined the European Union on 1 May this year.
I hope that next time we visit Cyprus it will be possible to drive straight to Kyrenia without strict borderformalities. The cypriots - both the ones of Greek and the ones of Turkish origin - derserve it.
A snapshot taken against the sun as we walked around the corner and discovered the harbour for the first time.

Pretty good result for being taken against the sun, Per - the colorful details (and there's a whole bunch of them ;-) of the marina are well enhanced by the light. Also nice how the pattern of masts guides the view towards the charming old buildings by the harborfront. A beautiful and tranquil-looking scenery, well done.

Thank you for sharing your photo. Annan Plan was the only opportunity for both side to decide their future? And Turkish Cypriots said YES for peace but Greek Cypriots said NO. WHY? Do you think that if EU force Turkey to find any solution in Cyprus, all the problems will be solved. Do you think that this is the only problem? Why Greek Cypriots said NO to Annan plan last year. Did you think that? I am Turkish Cypriot and I can say that Annan Plan was not very good solution but at least the equality was included in that solution. But Greek Cypriots said NO for this equality. On the other hand, Cyprus problem did not started in 1974. Do you know the victims in 1961, in 1962, 1963? Please try to look from another side to this picture? We are trying to forget the past but for the future Greek Cypriots (papdapulos) is not giving us any hope...Thanks for your understanding...
