Photographer’s Note

To a lot of people Cyprus is sea and beaches and Roman ruins - in short a typical Mediterranean holiday paradise. And so it is, but it is also a lot more. This is the Ezousa Valley about 25 kilometers inland from Paphos, and very few tourists stray this far. This particular valley is a paradise of a Mediterranean fruit orchard: oranges, lemons, grape fruit, olives, almonds, figs, mandarines and all kinds of nuts grow in abundance in the most wonderfully mixed orchards I have seen anywhere. None of the usual acres of long straight lines of orange trees here, or the undendlessly large olive groves found elsewhere. These are the orchards of the local peasants and still bear signs of serving the primary purpose of self-suffiency. That is refreshing - and beautiful. And on the hillsides above the river and the fruit orchards the local goats run about between yet more olive trees. A lovely place for hiking.

welcome back Per - and with a fine image to start as well - too bad I never visit Cypress or any other land in that area in the winter season - truly some fine autumn colours you got on this hillside - thanks for sharing this very fine and sharp image - good job indeed.

Hi Per. What a beautiful sweeping view across this fine mediterranean landscape. Beautiful to see all these detailed patterns and colors, and a wonderful depth as the eye wanders towards the back, gently led by the hill slopes. I can imagine how this must be a great place to go for a hike. Well done.
