I'll add my critique but bare in mind I too am a beginner. Nice photo but maybe try a filter like a polorizer. Adrianw has a page that has some examples of how a polorizer can help cut down on some of the bright areas that I am seeing in this photo and it also helps bring out more of the color rather then the light reflections. The filters section is at the bottom of page so scroll down for this section and see the examples he has on how a polorizing filter can help. I tried one for a photo I have uploaded here and helped alot to get the shot closer to what I wanted though still need to work on it some.
