Photographer’s Note
Sledgedogs are still used for daily hunting.
These half wilde dogs have a very hard (and short)
life.A good dog can cope this harsh life for up to 4 seasons.During the late spring and summer when the ice breaks up and the sledges can't be used, these dogs are set free on some nearby isolated island, only getting some food dropped once a week. These are no pets !!!
Despite their harsh life, these incredible animals really have a deep rooted passion for running....

Nice photo and great description.
It's too bad the tip of the ear got cut off though.

Lovely shot the title sums this up perfectly, his/her eye just looking into your soul !
Excellent dof shame about the cropping to the ear
If only the dog could talk ,what tales he/she could tell

old and cold I would say
at first glance I thought it was a polar bear... admired how close you got to it :)
now that I know its a dog - I have to say - Im not sure its the best angle - I would love to see more of his ears and some of his posture. but maybe thats just me...
nice exposure... the poor dog seem tired and wounded - tough life indeed...

Workdogs is a totally different world. As you say, it has nothing to do with pets. They are, as your title says, wise, but also intuitive, courageous and dedicated to death to their handler. Your shot is perfect, because it concentrates on the eyes, by far the most important part here, where all this dog intelligence appears. A very good portrait (notes and illustration)
