Photographer’s Note

Epitafios (Επιτάφιος) symbolizes Jesus Christ’s entombment. Every Good Friday, in every church around Greece, women and children decorate Epitafios with flowers. All day, hymns and dirges are chanted. At the evening, every Epitafios is taken outside the church and is being carried around the neighbouring streets, with the priest and a chorus ahead, before it returns to the church again.

The picture is very strange, blur all over but Epitafios noticeably more sharp! This was not caused by me, with post-processing! I like it, it seems a little metaphysical! It is the moment when the specific Epitafios and it’s retinue get out of the church’s yard, in Thessaloniki’s Old Town (Ano Poli).
