Kerkje van Oosterend (Little church of Oosterend)

This is the church of the small village of Oosterend on the island of Texel.

Oosterend is on the East-side of the island with about 1,400 inhabitants. There live a lot of fishermen and this little church is the most characteristic building in the village.
The church is the oldest one on the island and we know there already was a church in the 12th century on this place.

Texel (pronounced: Tessel) is an island and a municipality between the North Sea and the Waddenzee (Wadden Sea). It belongs to the province of Noord-Holland. It is the biggest and most populated of the Dutch Waddeneilanden (West Frisian Islands). The Wadden Sea is a protected nature area with a chain of islands. The first island is Texel, the last one is the island of Fanø in Denmark.
Texel has about 14,000 inhabitants, forms one municipality including 7 villages and a couple of townships. The 'capital' of the island is Den Burg. The island is quite touristic, but is well-known for its wildlife and its sheep. It is really a very charming island with some lovely villages.

I took this picture today, being on a one-day-sightseeing tour on Texel with some friends. The weather was great!

Hope you like this picture!
