The view from the Tower of St. Peter's church in Riga. Very often we observe the reflections of the bridge in river, but I found the view of the shadow on the frozen surface of river Daugava quite unusual.
The history of Riga, the capital of Latvia, begins as early as the 2nd century with a settlement, the Duna urbs, at a natural harbor not far upriver from the mouth of the Daugava River. Later settled by Livs and Kurs, it was already an established trade center in the early Middle Ages along the Dvina-Dnieper trade route to Byzantium. Christianity had come to Latvia as early as the 9th century, but it was the arrival of the Crusades at the end of the 12th century which brought the Germans and forcible conversion to Christianity; the German hegemony instituted over the Baltics lasted until independence—and is still preserved today in Riga's Jugendstil (German Art Nouveau) architecture.Today, Riga and its environs are home to close to half of Latvia's inhabitants.
UNESCO has declared Riga's historical center a World Heritage site in recognition of its Art Nouveau architecture, widely considered the greatest collection in Europe, and for its 19th-century buildings in wood.

bel gioco di archi sul fiume ghiacciato, una bella realizzazione, molto scenografica.
Ottimo pov, da li ti è venuta molto bene la diagonale sulla città.

We often see reflections in the water of course, but this sure puts a new twist on that concept...frozen water! :) Quite an intriguing and unique visual, and one that plays extremely well under the bright conditions to render this play of shadows. I really like this elevated viewpoint, which shows in great regard the repetitive pattern and subsequent oblong shapes it projects onto the ice. I bet this would look great as a black & white with high contrast. I must say though, it's fine the way it is, a good observation and wise use of the climate. I imagine you didn't take any river cruise though, right? :) Perhaps some ice skating instead? Enjoy the day ahead. Take good care.

Les couleurs sont un peu bizarres mais le pont et son reflet sont étonnants.

Good pov on the bridge and this frozen landscape, interesting contrast with these shadows on the river, well managed this strong backlight.

Interesting scene in wintery light blue pastel tone, with the bridge arches dominating and shadowed on the frozen river surface.

For me this is an amazing phenomenon, Malgo.
Never saw a frozen river, even during my stay in the USA back in the 70th.
Fantastic shade of the bridge, contrast the ice - and that's instead of the water reflection, probably a fine sight on summers.
Great shot over town houses on the flat terrain and windy city.
Have a nice evening,

Looks cold! I like the symmetry of the hard shadow on the frozen river and the graphic elements from the punchy contrast and minimalist color, enhance by the snow. A superb high pov with good sharpness. Tfs!
