Photographer’s Note

Brugge/Bruges has many faces. You can see all those faces within 2-3 hours because everything is so close. They say that Bruges is like an open-air museum. A beautifully preserved small mediaeval town. The only trouble is that it's such a touristy place that the crowd and the 'glamour' spoils it all.

There are on the other hand many things that make it very charming.

1. Avoid the crowd, go in the morning, and you have more chance to take photos like this (otherwise you will see a constant flow of sight-seeing boats.

2. See the town on a shiny winter day. Better atmosphere with less people and more mediaeval bell-melodies :-).

3. Hire a bike and paddle around the canals. Add a one-and-a-half-hour-long trip to the North See and you are absolutely hit by the real, spooky-sublime-cosy-weirdish, simply unique touch of Bruges.

So, that is the reason why I have chosen to upload this photo: daylight Bruges from its best point-of-view (you must have seen it several times on TE as well).

Technique: nothing special, just a wide-perspective lens (10-22mm), no tripod but a 0.6 ND grad Tiffen filter. Only framing added in post-work.
