Photographer’s Note
Another photo from the Open Doors day in Edinburgh.
We had a tour of the University's new Informatics and Computing building, which is excellent. From the roof I had a view of the top of the Tower of St Giles Cathedral over the museum.
I was taken by all the gilt on the building, compared to the museum in front (a great looking building inside itself).

Wonderful to see the details of this 'crown'. We used to see it - through binoculars - when we first moved into our house on Blackford Hill. Now trees screen it from there.
Regarding your photo, the colours - soft blues, greys and gold - are lovely together. The angle of the sun is just right. But maybe the best focus was on the nearest walls rather than on the windvane? The composition is interesting rather than satisfying; the white doors on right and left are distracting, I think, but the black metalwork and the sloping roof on the left go some way to balancing the tower. The darkness of the rows of unreflecting windows gives needed stability.
Well done, on a very difficult subject. And thanks,
Winifred
PS The white doors look good in the thumbnail!
