Photographer’s Note
Another train, this one was 'The Talisman' an enthusiast's special from London to Newcastle and back which ran on the 23rd July 2005.
The trip was in support of and to raise funds towards the cost of building a new Peppercorn class A1 pacific from scratch, a feat which is almost complete. The A1, number 60163 and named Tornado has cost in excess of £3million, every penny raised by enthusiasts and has taken 14 years to build. It moved under its own steam for the first time on 8th August 2008 and is the 50th member of the class to be built, the other 49 had all been scrapped by 1966.
The engine depicted in the photograph is an ex L.M.S Coronation class pacific, number 6233 'Duchess of Sutherland' and is seen here leaving York on the return journey back to London.
