Whilst the rain is pelting against the window on this particularly wet summer day, I will share with you a shot which I took last month.
This is a view down the lane near my home. As you can see, the farmer had just cut the grass in the field. Just a typical spring activity.
BUT ... what I particularly like about his area is that the farmers leave generous edges outside the fields. These, of course, are not cut and leave places for wild flowers to grow and insects and small mammals to thrive.
Many thaks for stopping by.
Please feel free to offer feedback on any aspect of the photograph.
My portable casio was hand held.

Hello Beverley! We are in for some rain pretty soon too so I enjoy what you have for me this afternoon :) I really like your title, it made me smile but also think. It would be so important to leave a little room to let things grow just as they come but in growed spaces like urban areas there is no room, or if there is, there is certainly someone that complains about "wild growing" and that it hurts the lawn. Lovely photo, I like it a lot. Barbara.

Beautiful countryside image Bev, with every shade of green imaginable and some pretty touches of yellow. You have composed it well, making excellent use of the many diagonal lines in the scene. Your pocket camera does a good job. It's pouring down on this side of the Pennines too :(

phantastic capture of this interesting landscape! Looks like a beautiful green patchwork. And there are so many nice details to study.
NB. The annual summer monsun is also striking us!

The stone fences are typical and very attractive!
They are used to some extent in Norway too, in Jśren that is right across the North Sea...
Pity with the "modern" gate but I guess they have to be practical!
A fine diagonal composition, and I notice the wild flowers -

I like a lot the different patterns here, the scene reminds me of handmade quilts :) smart composition too, the stone wall is a great way to lead the eye into the shot. the tiny cows provide an interesting accent, very nice work.

Hello Bev, Lovely lush greens and yellows. The lines created by the mown grass are crucial in adding extra interest and 'movement' in this otherwise pleasant but static scene. Nice observation on the verges too.
Friendly greetings from a very soggy Bingley....Maggie

If you showed this view to Silke during her visit, she is one lucky lady. Very attractive. I like the rolling hills, the crop furrows, and the even lighting. Best regards, Danilo

Bev, nice color in this shot and the details are well defined. The curves in the rows and the boarders of he fields make for a fine set of lines that really works well. Nice capture.

Again, a shot that makes one jealous of you for where you live.
The shot captures very well what you say about the verges full of wildflowers. In this one I really like the opposing diagonals created by the stone fence and the road in the background. And the absence of sky is also noticeable but a good thing in this instance. The colour saturation and sharpness seem very natural to me. I love the curves made by the recent mowing in the fields. Very nicely done with your little Casio.

picture perfect english countryside photo, as if i wish i could be there to smell the greens...
nice colors and very pleasing sense of perspective by the gradual softening of colors by distance

Well you have very fortunate to have such a lovely lane nearby to walk in communion with nature.
Lovely varying shades of green and interesting line created by the farmer's plow.
The old stone fence is seen in exacting detail and the little bits of yellow make a lovely contrast to all the green.
Glint (6171) 2008-07-16 2:52
nicely composed with a strong diagonal offered by the wall. I like the corduroy affect of the cut fields.
npecanhuk (75502) 2008-07-30 8:53
The fields without the sky, the horizon... well, once more you were very lucky in choosing such way to photograph those fields!
I really like this scenery - so peaceful!
TFS - Congratulations!

Hi Beverley. This is what I love about the English countryside, the provision made for the survival of other creatures. Copses, hedges, roadside edges- they all reveal a deep love of Nature. It is no accident that Wind in the willows was born in England. Beautiful POV- the land looks so old and yet tamed at the same time. Lovely shades of green. And, I must add that you are fortunate to live in this gentle place. Regards. Klaudio.

The divided arranjed plots and the wild plants open the mind to the pure nature of rural world. It seems a carpet of colours. Best regards. Domingos

This photo very well composed. I like these hills, the graphics of walls and that of the lines of cut hay.
There is a really beautiful gradation of greens.
