Today, I am continuing with my theme of 'The Leeds and Liverpool Canal'
This scene was shot on a stretch of the canal leading towards the locks at Barrowford. (Between Nelson and Skipton)
It was a very bright and very blustery day.
Because it was a Bank Holiday, I saw lots of people as I walked the towpath: some walking, some jogging, many cycling, parents explaining to children the history of the canal or peering into the water searching for fish, or, as this man on the shot, just walking the dog.
The linking factor was, they were all enjoying themselves! There were no scowls, no raised voices, no animosity!
(For information about the canal, please see my earlier posting.)
Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. And today? Today is a gift. That's why we call it the present.
Many thanks for stopping by.
Please feel free to offer me feedback on any aspect of the photograph. :-)

this is a very nice composition like a painting from the "Golden Age". Colours and the whole atmosphere are simply wonderful and the man walking his dog adds movement. Great shot! I am looking froward to further canal-impressions!

Hi Beverley. There is so much to like in this scene. Nature seems bountiful, an impression accentuated by the profuse flowers in the foreground and on the flowering shrubs. The different shades of green are restful to the eye. The contours and the stone walls add depth to this lovely image. And of course there is the dog.Regards. Klaudio.

You've chosen a very good point of view to present this beautiful landscape.
The flowery foreground is really nice and gives depth to your image.
The canal lead the eyes to the walker and his dog.
The soft light enhances the quietness of that scene.
Very well done.

Well chosen POV for the shot.
Excellent tones balancing the lovely lights.
All the best, dear friend.

I very much like the composition here. The curving towpath and the canal lead the eye neatly around towards the white railings of what looks like the lock. This curve is mirrored by the drystone wall and path, which come over the hill from the top left of the picture. The large tree at the top is neatly balanced by the flowery bank at the bottom right corner.Your usual lovely soft colours throughout.
The man and his dog coming towards us, introduce a dynamic element to the image.
My only niggle:
I feel perhaps that the man and dog are a little bit too near the centre of the picture. If a small part of the right side was cropped I think the balance could be improved.
I'd like to show this idea in a WS.

Your POV and composition are great. The use of the street and canal to lead the eye through the shot works very well. The soft lighting is great bringing out nice colors and definition. A higher f-stop around (F/11) would have created a larger DOF with more of the shot is crisp focus.
This is still a very fine shot!

In my home town there is a similar bike/hike trails along the Old Erie Canal. This is such a wonderful rural scene with the man and his loyal dog, the viivd blue strip of canal and lovely contrasting green hils and traditional English homes. Wonderful clear crisp colors and sharp details to this peaceful scene. Is that Queen Anne's lace out this early?

Beautiful relaxed daily life scene, and a photo that is an open invitation to take a walk. Excellent use of the road, as leading line, great perspective and composition. Excellent light managment and beautiful colours! Congratulations!

Nice shot Bev, you are right in this being a place of enjoyment. Colors are nice tho I think the sky could use a bit more saturation. I did a ws and punched up the saturation levels but until it posts I never know what it is going to look like. Anyway, another great shot.

A peaceful scene by the canal!
I notice the wild flowers by the roadside, a very attractive addition to the landscape...
Nice curves and a pleasant composition, fine natural colours and the Golden has spotted you!

Me encanta por el colorido de la fotografia. Yo pensaba que U.K. era un pais en que todo era gris, y los dias todos con niebla.
Un saludo desde Espaņa:

I think I'm missing the summer already: it's been cold and snowy for a long time here already! I'm fed up with snow. And this is such a charmning photo: everything is green and in full blossom... fresh rich colours, very nice mood! Pure enjoyment, indeed!
And a person with a dog is a real bonus :)

Good morning Beverly,
A lovely scene, and an enjoyable stroll to take along the canal with the dog company.
I admire the green in abundance all over and the spring blossom.
Fine clear view and DOF to far hills and the village houses.
Have a nice sunday,
