Photographer’s Note
Lochain na h'Achlaise, Rannoch Moor
Needless to say about this location.
One of the most recognisable (and unfortunately heavily overcrowded) places in Scottish Highlands with people virtually cueing to capture the famous “Lonely Tree” :)
As I am personally bored to death with it - I wanted to put some breath of fresh air and show you this place from a slightly new perspective.
It was a very special morning – with extremely dense mist covering the whole place (some other photos taken along will follow - so you can "fully experience" it).
I was initially attracted by some lovely clouds formations. When seen through wide-angle lens they were spreading in almost every directions. To add additional sense of drama I took 3 (wide-angle) vertical shots and stitched everything together into this square composition.
B/W conversion using Gradient Map layer.
Hope you’ll like it.

Piotr-
An extremely well converted B&W image.
You have captured a wonderful scene with exceptional light. Although the horizon is in the middle of the image, there is enough going on above the horizon, and with the different elements below the horizon, I don't believe that causes any issues at all.
You have a very nice post. You have also presented an fun opportunity for a workshop. I hope you don't mind mine.
Oops, it looks like you haven't authorized workshops. I'll save mine for awhile to see if you allow them.
Thanks!

Hi Piotr, this is truly outstanding shot from Rannoch Moor. I understand that you wanted to put original stamp on the shot and you managed absolutely great. Well done. Lucie

Hello Piotr,
This picture has a very magical feeling, particularly in the misty high-key areas around the little islands in the lake and the mountains in the distance. You've obviously taken a lot of trouble over this and done an excellent stitch job and BW conversion. I think the square format with the 50-50 compo works very well, particularly with the radiating lines of the clouds. Look forward to seeing more from this location.

John

Hi Piotr,
Wonderful shot ! The perspective effect is very well done and the great angle gives an incredible depth of field. I love the reflections in the lake and your choice of B&W that fits very well with the landscape.

Olivier

Hi Piotr
Another technical piece of wizardry. This works very well. You are correct the cloud formation certainly sets the shot up. Personally I would have preferred slightly more contrast but that just my opinion

Thanks for the fresh perspective and a different view. I like the strange feeling I get from this image, there seem to be some sort of energy behind the mountain absorbing the clouds and even the water toward its center, I can see it in the pattern of the water. Because it's black and White it's hard to tell what time of day it was. At first glance it look as if the horizon was over exposed, but reading your note, I can see that the mist morning air can be that way. Great details on the landscape even in the distance. Composition is good though I think the horizon was a bit too close to being at the center. I thought you could crop some of the sky but then I really like the way the cloud is drawn toward the mountain. It's a tough call. The rock in the foreground left hand side is quite dominating visually, darker, sharper, and more contrast, which normally is great but here it seem to unbalance the overall image. It seem to draw too much attention toward it. Okay, I think I written enough. Conclusion, I really enjoyed this strangely refreshing image, big smile from me. Thanks.

Hi Piotr,
I sure do like it. I'm especially fond of those ultra-wide angle sceneries and the B&W is a nice change. The various shades of grey are simply beautiful and the composition carefully arranged. Stangely enough, the square format doesn't bother me at all here. Good job.
Take care,
Philippe
