Turnberry Coast Photo

Photographer’s Note

Turnberry Lighthouse marks a dangerous part of the Ayrshire coast, off which lies Bristo Rock which was responsible for many wrecks.

The Lighthouse was designed by Engineers David and Thomas Stevenson. They examined the rock and reported on 18 May 1869 that it was inadvisable to erect a lighthouse on the rock itself, but suggested that the best place would be on Turnberry Point, where it now stands.

It is situated close to the 9th hole of Turnberry Golf Course in what was once the moat of Turnberry Castle, which disputes with Lochmaben the honour of being the birthplace of Robert Bruce (1274 -1329).

Hello Piotr,

This is an excellent shot!
The grassy mound makes a superb lead in line, quickly conducting the eyes along the edge, past the rocky promontery towards the light house!
The light, shining from the sea, highlights the grass and creates an interesting shadow along the ridge.
The composition and colours are first rate!

That's a very good one ! You composed it very well, with the grass on the foreground driving our look top of the cliffs and then to the lighthouse in the background. The light is wonderful. Thanks for posting.

Postcard view. You have a good eye! Nicely Framed Picture. I guess it'll give a good contrast if the clouds were even darker!
