The Hare and Hounds.

Standing alongside the Fosse Way - a road first built by the Romans - this old pub provides rest and refreshment for travellers on the road.

The flowers of a Clematis Montana can be seen as it rambles up the wall, and over the stone tiles of the roof.

From the Hare and Hounds website:

"Nestling in the Cotswold countryside and close to the historic Fosse Way, The Hare and Hounds Inn is perfectly situated for the many attractive towns and villages of Gloucestershire and beyond.

Historic Cirencester is our nearest town, Cheltenham, home of the Cheltenham Hunt Festival, is less than half an hour away by car and Northleach, Bibury and Bourton on the Water are even closer.

In our neighbouring village is the National Trust's Chedworth Roman Villa.

Built of mellow Cotswold Stone, the historic Hare and Hounds is a traditional country inn, with oak fireplaces containing original bread ovens".

Peter,
This is a nice shot of this great old pub. I would love to be sitting there right now with a cold pint of Guinness. Your composition is fine with the road leading the eye through the scene and the tree on the right providing balance and framing. The lighting and colors are fine with nice sharpness and detail.
TFS,
Asa

hello Peter,
another lovely English scene....another huggable!I like the textures of stone and slate and the pale yellow of the stonework set against that deep blue sky. And what a blue! it vies with the blue of the sun parasol and wins hands down.
best regards
Bev

Have a nice and sunny weekend.

Hello, Peter.

Another fine picture from your little Canon.

You really have a great ability to seek out interesting and characterful buildings, especially hoselries with fine food and drink!

The pale stone walls, the stone tiled roof, the sagging roof beams and that glorious clematis, all add to the character of this one. Interesting that the whole building should be of stone and yet the chimneys are of brick: perhaps bricks, having been fired themselves, are more resistant to heat when used in chimneys?

Your note is interesting too: I have looked at the website and I think the creators of that site would do well to request this picture of the building to replace the less impressive photo which appears there.

As Bev says, that blue sky is lovely - did you do much in the way of processing to this one?

Best Wishes,

John.
