Driving through Honister pass in Borrowdale you will come upon the Honister Slate quarry. Stop here for geat views along the winding pass and the surrounding hills. I have posted a shot of this view as a workshop. Without a tripod and buffeted by a strong wind it is not too sharp but you find the view of interest. More information about the slate quarry

Hello Bev,

This is an excellent composition, the large slates on the ground and the fence made with slate posts, make a very interesting FG. Then the scene drops away down the steep valley, with its scree covered slopes.

The rolling grey clouds cast a slightly gloomy atmosphere.

The last time I was on Honister Pass was in about 1953, struggling to get up the very steep gradient on an ancient 1930s BSA motor bike. I'm pretty ancient myself now!

I'm not sure if it's the difference between our computer screens, but I find this a bit dark on mine - I'd like to see a bit more in the shadowy parts. Perhaps my eyes are getting ancient too.

Purely for comparison, I'm going to upload a WS with a lighter version - which I have sharpened a bit too - and which looks about right to me in terms of lightness. It may very well look too light on your screen.

Let me know now it appears.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi BeV!

Beautiful landscape, great POV, perspective and composition. Very clever positioning of the fence to increase the interest in the foreground and beautiful colours on the slopes. Congratulations!

Hi, Bev,
what a barren looking landscape and you have done SUCH a great job with it. So many nice lines and angles and I love the stones in the FG. The fence leads in wonderfully and I like the way it makes a contrasting line to the ones coming down on the opposite mountain. I like these subdued colors, too. I just like this whole shot. Excellent job! Thanks and hope you have a nice weekend,
Shelly

Hi Bev, the sharpness looks OK to me. This is a fine shot, great compo with the foreground rocks and fence. Looks to me like you are really getting to grips with your new camera! Well done.
cheers
Leon

Hi Bev, I'm happy to discover Cumbria through your eyes - it seems so wild, pristine, untouched ! very surprising and the bad weather gives pleasant colours pleasant to this shot...
Compliments,
Hugs,
Cath.

Hello Bev,

I think this is one of the best shots you have posted! The f/g captures the interest with the slates and the wonderful fence!

The implied steep drop is emphasised by the opposite slope meeting it somewhere in the depths! A bright blue sky might have spoiled the subdued atmosphere here whilst the grey sky is perfectly in keeping!
Lovely composition.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Bev. Are those fence posts made of stone? I guess you use whatever is at hand! Great photo. Well composed with good foreground interest and natural earthy colours and good sharpness also. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.
