Photos

The fields around my family's home are filled with cows and sheep. I thought it would be a good idea to try and capture some of the animals, particularly the cows. Recently in Paris the Louvre had an exhibition of medium format B&W photos of cows. They were quite extraordinary in revealing some thing about these animals, while at the same time showing that hey have extremely expressive eyes.

This was an early photo in the exercise. I was walking through the valley when I saw some of the cows standing on the rise watching me. I thinkit makes for a good photo, with the solitary cow and low horizon. The subject has a muscular presence and (for some odd reason) I keep think this cow has seen some westerns!!
