St. Paul's Cathedral, London

Scene
This building once dominated London's skyline and now dwarfed by modern office building and is almost hidden from the river. One needs to look hard to see the dome among the other buildings. Designed by Sir Christopher Wren between 1675 - 1710 when the predecessor was destroyed in the Great London Fire. The dome is 355 feet from the floor and the windows in this image are about 200 feet above the floor. The scenes in the dome look like frescoes, but are really mosaics depicting the prophets and the saints. This image was captured from the Whispering Gallery at 99 feet above the main floor.

Hi John,
I love the way you have captured this. An unusual POV which totally transforms this shot. Great quality too.
WELL DONE!

Good to see you posting again John.
I love the monotone of this image, and you have done a fantastic job to make the mosaics seem almost 3D. The Whispering Gallery is the perfect place to get closer to the inside of the dome and you have made an excellent composition, eschewing the obvious symmetrical framing, to achieve the almost abstract image you have here.
Good work

Hi John,
Fantastic job of cropping and composing this photograph! You only included the essential details and used your keen eye to frame this portion of the dome. Many photographers would have been lost in all of the details. The sharpness is superb, especially by using a fairly slow shutter speed. Outstanding artistry and technique!

WOW, John! How were you able to keep this jewel so long on your hard drive. This is fantastic. It gives me the feeling that I'm standing there and looking up. The column at teh left upper corner provides a terrific lead into the dome with its fresno. Very unsual placement for the column in a composition but with an outcome of first class.

So great volumes here. You did extremely well at rendering 3D and the tones are beautifully rendered as well. Great job.

HI John,

I love the control of the exposure .. I love the dimension .. Love the detail .. I am not sure of the composition .. not that I know what I would like .. but it feels a bit like square peg in a round hole .. still very nice .. did you use a tripod here .. it feel really crisp .. I have gotten used to all these blurry cathedral interiors on TE ..

take care,

John
