Photographer's Note

This was the pinnacle of our day, and really our winter trip. We'd been up to Scotland to climb in the snow but there was none - On the way home we stopped in the Lake District and there was the snow.

We headed up Hind Gill on the flanks of Glaramara, it turned into an epic. Part way up we came across a section of very steep water ice, I've never climbed ice like it, 4 inches deep and solid. It was easy with the crampons and the ice axe's but my wife said she had never been so scared in all her life.

When we reached the summit I had to capture the moment. This image is a friend, George White, and my wife against the wonderful blue sky.

What a triumph.
