My first post in a while (been a bit busy with one thing and another, including changing jobs).

Looking back through my archives I found this other shot from a misty Filey beach (from the same session as this one

This is a shot facing North showing people emerging from the dense mist that had suddenly enveloped Filey Brigg, a rocky pensinula that extends 1600m into the North Sea.

More info on the Brigg can be found here and here

Post-processing has been limited to B&W conversion, some cropping and slight increase of contrast. I have also posted the colour version as a workshop

Hi Leon,
After long time ! Good B&W conversion to convey the misty atmosphere better, some dynamism added by people moving on the beach.. I would maybe have cropped some of the top to have less empty sky... but still a nice capture!
Greetings from Cambodia
Laurent

Hello Leon,
Good to see you back after a long absence. I prefer the black and white version myself, I think it adds much to the atmosphere of mystery of these people emerging from the mist. A lively scene well captured. Excellent tones and clarity. A bit ambivalent about Laurent's suggestion to crop some of the sky; I think you might lose some of the atmosphere but you might want to experiment.

Hi Leon.
I like the shot a lot. The fairly low contrast b/w finish gives it a nostalgic quality. I agree with the suggestion of cropping the sky. I also think the compression has lowered the quality of the image. It's only 63k, when it could be 200k. But it's a very atmospheric picture with both fog and sunshine.
Regards,
Andrew

nice scene with all these people on the beach, interesting details, and good athmosphere created by the mist

Hi Leon,

Your photo is very attractive full with people in B&W medium. I like busy, wide beach while inhabitants enjoying their walk that adds great dynamism too. Foggy background also very well captured. Your workshop post can be your primary one. An excellent shot, congratulations.

Friendly Regards,

Ertugrul

Hi Leon - welcome back! Hope the new job is going well! British weather - you can't beat it! Bright sunshine & thick fog, all in the space of a few metres. IMO don't crop the top - it really give a sense of scale to the overall composition. If anything a tiny bit more at the bottom of the frame would work well too as I feel that group is just a little tight to the bottom edge.

Good work - looking forward to some more !

All the best, Roberto

Hi Leon,
how good is to see you again!!! Hope things are better now so we'll have the chance to see you more often!
This shot is good, good inclusion of the people to give dynamism to the compo..but what I like is the fog in the bg who brings in a great mood! Quality is good throughout!
Take care and see you soon!!!

Igor

Hi Leon,
I am glad to see you back after so long.
You captured very nicely the atmosphere of the beach. I like much the mist, the contrast it does with the sun on the FG and the presence of the people enjoying the place. The detail of the man playing with the dog on the right adds interest and dynamism. I agree that the B&W suits well the mist, but I also like very much the colour version, in which one can perceive better that the sun is shining and the red clothes play an important part.
Regards, José.

Hi Leon,

what I really like about your gallery is the variety of photographs on show. I also like the fact that you vary your images by having some B&W conversions too. I like this one, it's something special. Though 63k is a tad small it still conveys the moody atmosphere you set out to achieve. Your note and links are great and I also like the colour version too. A really fine capture, well spotted and it's good to see you back, even if, like myself, it's on and off.

Regards

Stephen

Hi Leon mate. Good to hear from you again. Although a first look it appears not much is happening here because of the vast expanse of the mist, you look and see all the dogs running about and the small figures of the people make this quite interesting.
Only been here once. As I was walking down to the beach (it was misty!!) people were piling off. Thought 'this is odd'. Well it wasn't odd. The tide was nearly in and there was nowhere to sit ;( Ha, ha.

All it lacks are some men with knotted hankies on their heads and this could be in the 50s ;D You have really captured the essence of the NE coast - typical fog. There is however some good light getting through. It's one of those photos that if you keep looking you will find something you never saw before. Well done
Kath
Don't leave it so long next time. ;D

Hi Leon, a stunning scene for me, the mist is so strong and you captured an image full of life, full of action, people and animals enjoy the life here, great composition.
Good idea to have it in BW.
Have a nice day.

Hello stranger! Who is appearing out of the mist? You or all this people in the image? Hope you're doing well. Funny to see the interaction of all the humans and dogs in the image - especially the guy chasing his dog at the very right and the white dog on the leash looking from a certain distance.
I hope to see more coming from you!
Peter

Hello Leon
So you have emerged from the mist as well as Filey. Good luck with your new job.
This shot brings back memories of 'sea-fret' and the boom of fog horns on holidays spent on this part of the East coast. I like the way the show goes on in spite of the mist, with lots of activity on the beach. I think perhaps the sky could be cropped almost down to pano format so that we engage straight away with the people on the beach - the mistiness would still be very apparent. Excellent shot as it stands though!
Best wishes....Maggie
PS I am having a few days in Whitby next week - it is many years since I was there. Your shot puts me in the mood!
