Photographer’s Note
Hi everyone, I haven't posted any photos for a while now (about time I started again!) but I was out last night doing some test shots and thought I'd share one with you. There is a lunar eclipse in the early hours of Thursday morning, just after 3am(GMT) so I thought I'd better check my gear. The eclipse should be visible (weather permitting) in most of Europe and America and if you've never seen one before it's definitely worth getting up early to see.
If you've ever wondered why there are dark patches on the moon, they are lower areas of land which do not have as many crater impacts compared to the other areas. We always see the same face of the moon due to it's orbit being stabilised by the Earths gravitation.
This photo is taken with a Sigma 50-500 lens and a 2x converter taking it to 1000mm, the conversion factor on a Canon 20D makes this equivalent to 1600mm.
Put a note in your diary and get up to see it, if I'm right there wont be another one visible in the UK till 2015!
