Photographer’s Note
Shanklin beach on the Isle of Wight has some pretty large cliffs at the southern end and whenever we have strong winds and heavy rain combined, there ends up being a landslide or cliff fall.
This shot was taken 1 day after a massive gale in December 2007, there were many trees that had fallen and some were on the beach, although this one had fallen a long time ago but the huge waves dragged it down the beach and dumped it next to this wooden groin.
I thought it would make an interesting, if a little boring shot!
I used an ND8 Graduated filter

Very balenced exposure. The ND filter has done its job to perfection.
The eyes travel into the photograph to the horizon and gets mesmerized by the clouds.
Wish I could give you more than 1 amilie.

Hi Jamie, even without the wave action this is still an impressive shot. What appeals most to me here is the two plains of sky and land and how they merge. The log certainly makes for an interesting foreground and the cliffs build the overall composition. Great work.

You are nailing these romantic shorescapes Jamie - you have developed a good technical grasp of it which is echoed by some experienced hands here at this approach - I don't find this boring at all - OK - it is static but there is a story and action or two here depending on your timescale and imagination! Nice work!

Hi Jamie,
A very good composition in its construction. The wood and the gate in foreground, the beach, rock and fabulous sky in background.
The colors are fabulous also, sharpness perfect. So, very well done!

Olivier
