[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This photo concludes my theme covering the Tate Modern for the year 2007, it has been a wonderful theme to have covered over the past few weeks and I hope you all did too, certainly you have shown it trough your very much appreciated comments and critics, many thanks to all. All my shots have been taken mostly inside the Tate Modern so what better shot to end this theme than an outside view?

The Tate Modern, seen here on this shot taken from the Millennium bridge which links St. Pauls Cathedral to the south bank in London, is Britain's national museum of international modern art, together with Tate Britain, Tate Liverpool and Tate St Ives, is now collectively known as “Tate”, referring to this building the galleries are housed in the former Bankside Power Station, which was originally designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the architect of Battersea Power Station, and built in two stages between 1947 and 1963. The power station closed in 1981. The building was converted by architects Herzog & de Meuron and contractors Carillion. The southern third of the building was retained by the French power company EDF Energy as an electrical substation, since its opening as a gallery it became a very popular destination for Londoners and tourists. Entry to collection displays and some temporary exhibitions is free.

A glass pyramid extension dedicated to photography, video, exhibitions and the community, on the south side of the building, also designed by Herzog & de Meuron, which will increase the display space by 60%, was granted planning permission on 27th March 2007. This project will cost approx. £215 million (British pounds) and is scheduled to open in 2012, in time for the 2012 Olympic Games being held in London.

Hello Joao

The series has been so exclusive on TE..have seen another with theme of BnW..with the use of elements which are commonly available..indeed creative the refreshing !

Waht struck me here was the grainy finish on the sky and the razor sharp graphic in the FG..looks like a short bridge over a waterside..

The building on the far right..wish there was more definition with the lights off the building

Overall..a perfect one to conculde to the series..good job bro

Seasons Greetings :)

Cheers
Sayeed

A very nice conclusion to this serie with this picture taken from the Millenium bridge. The B&W gives a very dramatic effect to this night picture. I do not know why, but this dark atmposhere reminds me of Orwell's "1984", probably due to the industrial style of the building, easy to associate with the opressive (I was about to say "néo Stalinist") society described in the book.
The single chimney you show here will also explain my preference for Batters Power Station, which has tow of them...

All the best,

Emmanuel

Bom dia Joao! It's certainly a good ending for the series. Your B&W is as dramatic as usually. Good mastery of light (it's the soul of this image) and composition. I love the way the photo is slightly out of focus, creating an eerie feeling together with the lights and the clouds; I guess that's due to the long exposition on the wobbly bridge :-) but it's a very nice effect. I see a slight tilt in the tower and suppose it was on purpose, but it's a bit distracting.
Excellent series! TFS e um abraço,
Inés

Excellent b&w compo and light effects. I like the soft look.

TFS,

Andreea

Excellent end to the series Joao Paulo. Nice symmetry around the chimney and the bridge is a great lead in. Fine B&W. The whole series has been a real treat - a shame it has to come to and end! Best regards, Roberto

Hi Joao,
Nice shot, I actually like the whole Tate Gallery series, brings back nice memories. The slight softness matches the atmosphere. My only question is related to the tower not completely vertical, I thought it was due to the low focal length but it seems like the whole image is slightly angled. Was this on purpose?
Season's greetings,
Catalin

what an awesome composition in B&W! :-) terrific pov from the great millennium bridge onto the famous tate gallery.
wonderful dramatic nightview with incredible lights and details. superb job & Happy Holidays, thor.

Olá, João Paulo.
O preto e branco aqui dá um ar futurista e impesoal à cena. Me lembra um pouco a seqüência final do filme "Blade Runner". Excelente!
[]'s e Feliz Natal!

Hello Joao Paulo,
very nice dynamic compo with the path leading the eye straight to building. The conversion works very well and even if it's a bit unusual (in term of b&w conversion) I like it..very much!
Thanks for sharing it and all the best wishes for a great 2008

Igor
