If you read the sign on the gate post you will see that it's an appeal for a much loved tortoise that has run(?) away somewhere into these bleak & barren Penine hills.
This photo was taken a few weeks ago, near an animal rescue centre called Bleakholt.
Regards to all, David. |

Hi David, it did make me smile, but it is also quite tragic. A 35 year old tortoise - incredible! I'll make a note of the number just in case it makes it to Croydon. A lovely illustration of how much the British love their pets. TFS. Best regards, Roberto
Hi David,
at first, I couldnīt understand why you included so much "background" to the lost tortoise photo but then I got it: in this open land, itīs unfortunatly almost impossible to find the pet. Iīm a proud owner of a turtle myself, and Iīm sure this one prefers the nature to its terrarium. Letīs hope it wonīt be too cold for it outside. My tortoise was in the garden in a summer afternoon this year, I bordered a small piece of grass with a hosepipe - but this was no obstacle for the animal. I thought I wouldnīt ever find it again!! I was frightened to death that it could have ran to the road and caught by a car! After one hour, I found him under the hedge.
