A few days before yesterdays posting I took this view of the canal below the cottage, which is just above the bank on the right. At the time I thought the Huddersfield narrow canal was so firmly closed (with the locks filled with conrete, filled in lengths, and even a factory built over it at one point) that it cold never be reopened. 3 years later a 20 year restoration plan began, which resulted in the canal being reopened in 2001. The warves at Saddleworth have now been converted into bijou apartments.

Amazing, Richard, after all these years. But I guess a good shot remains a good shot. I really love the light. The composition is as lovely as the scene itself.

Excellent picture, very good colours, it looks like it was taken straight from a fairy tale, you created very good atmosphere in this frame, well done!

One little thing, in the bottom of the frame there is a little branch that is not usefull.

Very misty picture, I like the setting and the reflection you ahve captured, very good detail despite the mist and haze, I would have cropped the stick, sticking out the bottom right there, but apart from that this picture makes me want to go back to England

Thanks

Wow this is from 1975, very good picture, I like it.

saludos Richard!

Kikvel

Jolie photo, jolies couleurs, ca donne un aspect film relatant de l'âge de la révolution industrielle.

Your photo has a lovely timeless quality to it and it's REALLY appealing. The early morning tranquility was well captured here.

Richard!
Thanks alot,Dear!
EXCELLENT,I like it,very much.
NO,I love it.

de la tres belle image à partir d'un lieu qui l'est surement un peu moins

Very calming scene. I like all the details of the buildings and the hillside in the background in the upper left gives the scene depth. The warm tone makes this photo work. I also think that the sharpness is fine. I personally think that anymore would detract from the photo.

Great scene, just love the quality of the light; the picture has a timeless feel as well. Only qualm would be the half-tree on the far right that could be cropped away.

this is the kind of mood I like the best. personally I would remove the branch in the bottom part when taking a picture

A most remarkable scene Richard! Despite the evident industrialization and pollution, there's a good atmosphere - almost serenity, created by the composition which highlights the trees and river, and the green tones. Excellent!

A great catch Richard. The athmosphere is so well rendered, the lighting is magical and the misty backgrounds adds mystery. I like the very soft lighting and colours. Very well done Richard!

Right out of The Great Gastby sepia mood, I think you did a lovely job on this, Richard. The green is SO subtle.

Beautiful light and softness effect on the whole image. A mystical atmosphere.

Très olie atmosphère rendur par ce brouillard et des tons très pastels.

Soft, hazy light makes this lovely composition Richard, naturally reducing saturation of the colors. At first I thought it was a sepia image, but then I noticed the green along the canal's edge. I can almost feel the dampness of the air this February morning. You have a treasure trove from which to draw it appears. It is a wonderful collection. Makes me wish I hadn't thrown out boxes of 35 mm slides I'd accumulated from years of travel. I'm glad you're having fun with these favorite images of a bye gone era. Thanks for sharing them.

A very beautiful winter atmosphere rendered here and a very nice composition for this shot from 1975 ! (Thirty years old soon). This peicure is very well balanced with this perspective surrounded by these old buildings and the low saturation suits very well to this subject. Very well done !

Excellent look! Beautiful brown color tones !!!

Very atmospheric & very good choice to desaturate the colour, to almost sepia tones. I'd clean the slide & sharpen this a bit. Apart from that, a fantastic shot.

1975? Wow, suc an old shot, and the almost sepia really makes good with this shot. I like the Engish famous fog at the back, and the nice reflections of the leafless trees. Wonderful, Richard.

Very fine old shot you present for us here Richard. I like the foggy atmosphere you captured very well - thanks for sharing.

Beautiful! It is like a picture postcard!! Just perfect in terms of light, color, mood and composition. The workshop image looks like the photo has been run through the water color filter in PS. Looks more like a painting than a photo. Dont really think this needs any more sharpening. Great shot Richard and thanks for sharing.

Wonderful atmosphere, I love it very beautiful compoced, great reflextion, great light and color tone.

So nice, soft and it looks "antique", great shot, Richard, I like it.

Very impressive old picture. Move me to look for similar pictures in my old boxes.

These kind of romantic, peaceful & serene images work very well! A cloning of the branches encroching on the RHS may improve what is already a top photograph.

Regards,

Vic

PS This part of the Leeds - Liverpool Canal?

Very beautiful composition, a true postcard, likes this environment on the photograph, the tone is perfect.

Very painterly European setting.. like the overall tonal quality - almost monochromatic

This looks very much like a painting. The wonderful scenery captured in the warm and soft light, shrouded in the morning mist can spark the imagination and inspire artists. Well captured. Great composition.

Great shot looks like an dickens shot..

Wow! At first I thought it reminds me a painting, but then remembered. Looks like a 3 dimensional video game or a picture, generated with 3d software :D
So unreal and fantastic.
And if not that wooden house on the left, the effect would be much weeker!
Great mood the image creates, just add the right frame, emphasizing the mood of mystery and I'd watch it all hour or so long :p

very beautiful composition! good atmosphere! great photo, very good work!

misty and calm. i'd love to live on the banks of this river.. must be so peaceful.. love the atmosphere!

The stillness is arresting...you could almost hear the silence.

Amazing picture you have here. Seems to be taken from a dream. I like the misty atmosphere you have here giving some faded house background from afar.
only inout i have is maybe to clone tool brack from the right. Excellent catch!

Ohh, Richard, grande immagine! Poetica, fiabesca e nello stesso tempo realistica e accattivante, un atmosfera suggestiva, tecnicamente ben eseguita, forse un po' sporcata da piccoli puntini neri, ma non importa, è lo scatto che conta!!!

Although a colour photo the "monochromatic" effect here helps to create the foggy atmosphere.

I could drift forever in here..... beautiful, peaceful, pleasant to see! I love the mist, the colors, the reflections, just perfect!

Wonderful place at right moment from exactly right angle .

... and this one is just great...

Haven’t seen this one before. Beautiful light and a magical and relaxing atmosphere. The golden tones and misty air create a feeling of a painting. Also the POV is very good with the different shapes of the both shores adding dynamic to the view. And from 1975!

What a shot. Nice capture of the reflections on the water and the mist. With the faded light it has a very tranquil but eery look. I also like how you caught the outlines of the building and trees up on the hill. Very nice job.

Beautiful scene richard..you are really lucky to have traveled to so many beautiful places and your pics really gives justice to all of them

Hi Richard,
beautiful misty atmosphere, very nice POV.
What, it's a 1975 shot ??? I wasn't born... :-)

Hi Richard - you have a very impressive gallery, I'll begin with this one.. It's all been said, perfectly captured moment, informative note. For better or worse those bijou apartments are popping up everywhere.

Excellent atmosphere and very well captured
great work,great portofolio

Richard, very atractive photograph. I like the principal color and the distribution. Very professional point of view and the elements quality. sharply taken and great mirror reflection on the water.
Excellent background and the sky looks very saturated, i like that.
Thanks
Sergio

Hi Richard, in terms of light, color, mood and composition this is perfect. Such a nostalgic photo and full of atmoshphere. You can feel the dampness in the air. I would liek to see a shot of the restorated canel a al 2005.

Richard,
This is an excellent shot. I really like the composition. The reflection on the water is a really nice addition.
Nice earthy colors too!
Thanks for sharing,
Katie

This is very beautiful scenery.
The colors, light and details are beautiful. Thanks for sharing.Well done. Uğur

HellO richard,
I just discovered this one through your intro page,
Lovely monotonous brownish tones. Is it me or do you really like to bring out some kind of Dickensian aura in your photos?

Magnificent evening light on a very melancholic landscape. Almost a Sépia, and nevertheless...

I saw this as one of your featured photos on your profile page, Richard, and this really deserves to be up there amongst the best (actually I think it is better than the cow but everyone to their own taste). The soft light in this is wonderful - it is the type of photograph that I would give a day to wait for. Excellent scan for a photograph so old. Cheers . . . David

hi richard
I seem to have not notified this fine compo before now.
But here we are: For sure a very moody presentation, almost natural sepia. Great details in a perfect setting with the shadowless light. A very 'classic' top disposed photo.

Hi Richard!
I love the colors and the soft look! Very peaceful….Well done!

I Absolutely love the atmosphere in this shot. Sepia tone adds to it as well. Initially I thought I'd cut off some water, but it would destroy the reflexions, so it's better off that way.
Superb.

Lovely picture, I like the way you have managed to catch not just the view but also the entire atmosphere.
