[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is one of many pieces of public art along the promenade at Southport. Southport is a Victorian seaside resort that had come into some disrepair. It has benefited of late by significant investment of EU regeneration money, including a much improved sea defence and promenade. It also has one of the longest piers, which has its own train. And the tide goes out so far that the sea can seldom be seen.

It's a little known fact that Prince Louis Napoleon (Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte) lived on Lord Street, Southport, from May 1846 before becoming Emperor of France in 1851.
Just a year later, no doubt inspired by his stay in the town, he set his Prefect of the Seine, Baron George Haussman, to work redesigning the city of Paris.
Much of the medieval centre of Paris was replaced with broad tree-lined boulevards, covered walkways and arcades, just like Lord Street.

Beautiful shot David. The blue of the background is amazing, so deep, so perfectly unspoiled. And the light in which you captured the artwork is absolutely perfect too. I would probably have pushed the compo just a bit to the top. My sincere congratulations on this one. I like it a lot.

Hello David,
Good work to capture this image. Very good colour, contrast and definition. I like the Public Art.
Regards,
Filipe

Hi David,
agree with Luis the blue background sky is splendid, it looks like the ones you can get developping RAW files with DxO. The artwork itself is very dynamic in shape and the light glow on is is nice.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Hi David,
very well framed shot of this piece of art, in a well chosen portrait format. The focus and exposure are perfect and I like the play of lights on the subject. The bg. provided by this uniform blue sky is very nice and perfectly contrasting with the sculpture. Nice work!
Tfs and best wishes.

Hi David.
Interesting shot and note on Southport.
Having known this place from a few visits there in the mid 90s I'm glad to hear that it's now getting some funding to brighten up and rework it's charm.
It's most surprising to hear that Louis Napoleon was a resident at a time and that he may have found his inspiration for later development of Paris !

Robert
