This is in one of the gardens at Snowshill Manor. The building was one of the outbuildings, probably a barn. The manor itself is up steps to the right of this picture.
Snowshill Manor was once owned by Winchcombe Abbey, until the Dissolution of the Monasteries in1539. (Nothing of the Abbey remains today) The main part of the house was built in 1500. When we visited there was scaffolding up as they were re-decorating. I have put a picture in the WS so you can see what it looks like; probably very different from how it was in 1500.
Architect Charles Paget Wade bought the manor as a derelict farm in 1919 and used it to house his extensive collections. He was a lover of good craftsmanship and amassed collections of over 22,000 items of as many different types of craft imaginable, turning the manor into what I would describe as a museum. He gave the manor and its contents to the National Trust in 1951. The National Trust is a charity similar to English Heritage. It looks after over 300 historic houses and gardens, monuments, nature reserves and much more.
What was the manor’s farmyard has been turned into terraced gardens designed by Wade in collaboration with fellow architect MH Baillie-Scott. The outside buildings also house some of the collections and the rooms in which Wade lived.

Ravie d'être la 1ère a découvrir ce beau cliché de ce manoir bien cadré et bien présenté. Même si le ciel est chargé la luminosité met l'ensemble en valeur et le tout est agréable à regarder.
Merci pour le partage et bon dimanche.

Love those grey clouds and the green in the foreground. Was any PP involved? In any case, it's pretty. Composition is excellent as usual. This would definitely make it into commercial brochures. Regards,

Very nice work under grey sky and low light conditions. I like very much the greens and the blues in this weather conditions. A great atmosphere.

Décidemment, ce village est superbe est méritait vraiment le détour ! Tu as créé ici une très belle perspective vers cette maison qui semble toute petite ! Le ciel gris donne un joli contraste avec la verdure !

A lovely symmetrical composition with great clarity and colours. The charged sky adds much to the atmosphere and helps strengthen the tones I think.

This one benefits from the same nice light as your cottages some days ago, which makes the greens very vivid against the rather grey weather, did you inject a bit of HDR ?
Have a nice sunday JY

excellent shot with a lot of depth. Light conditions were low but you managed just fine. The roof could do with some renewing.
Have a nice day, John.

What a wonderful place, and I admire the fact you convey this peaceful atmosphere so well!
Good lead-in through the lush garden, and the dark clouds we see contrast well the nicely lit scenery...
Well composed, good details!

Now that is a cottage with real character! The white moss (or bird pooh) in the roof speaks for itself as to the age of this house ... a real good capture. You've composed this well using the pathway as your leading line towards the house. Good balance and depth in this compo plus image quality is also very good. Excellent work! tfs

The symmetry with which you framed this dream of an English country garden adds to the feeling of peace. Colors feel very natural detail is impeccable. HLJ, Pat

So green, even with this dark sky. I like such place with luxury of plants. The well is so nice presented this way. And every thing here is in accordance.

image bien contrastée avec des couleurs homogénes, un cadrage parfait de ce monastére, sacré ciel orageux

Lovely house and beautiful colours, light, clarity and perspective!
Perfect composition from my point of view!

Hi Kath. Despite having outstanding colors I think this would be good as a b/w mostly because of the contents of the scene as well as the textures on the roofs. I think this is definitely better than your workshop but thanks for letting us see the building from another angle. Whenever I go to these sorts of places the buildings are built within the last 25 years so the buildings never are nearly as interesting. tfs Kath.

I love the framing of your picture... very symetrical and very successful. The light is superb as well as the colours... Great picture!

i ve been to england 20 years ago and that's too long... looking at your pictures i regret not going there quite often to see the green world in harmony in the english countryside... beautiful garden here, despite the bad weather the colours are so vivid... beautiful one again kath...

very nice composition with a great perspective. The colours are beautiful, your POV is first class and the light is excellent. The most striking thing about the gardens at Snowshill Manor is the way you have controlled the light. The colours are very soft, you've avoided over-saturating.The stone well in the middle of the garden add a present stroke in the hole frame.Informative your note too. Well done.
john_c (24662) 2007-07-16 7:30
The mood here is set by the dark sky contrasting with the bright and cheerful grassy area and the little old barn. I like the balance here provided by the stone artifact bounded by the two walkways on the side of the garden, with the tall tree to the right of the building enhancing and leading to a feeling of snugness. The springlike hues and tones help provide a charming appeal. Well captured.

My wife and I were in the Cotswalds in 1992 (with my late Scottish born father-in-law driving), and my wife remembers driving by this small village. We visited Bibury, Stow-in-the-Wold, and Broadway, but we missed Snowshill. The Cotswalds are beautiful country with outstanding scenery and marvelous stone buildings. You photograph is an excellent example of the beautiful architecture and gardens of the Cotswalds. I wish that my Cotswalds photos were this good. You must have the patience of Job to wait for the best lighting (ie when the Sun peeks out between the clouds). You know your British lighting well and your photos are always outstanding! By the way, the large globe in my latest Niagara Falls photo was a large balloon.
mickyg (815) 2007-07-17 3:03
Good detailed notes as usual and a fine capture too, the sky looks threatening but adds to the overall beauty of this image along with the traditional English garden flowers
luiscar (3286) 2007-07-17 7:30
Hello Kath, presented well the image with framing and scale of very natural color.
The truth is that this small garden has a singular beauty, with the ancient well and two banks in blue.

What a lovely Manor... and when I see the sourounding in your other picture (lavender fields)... I believe this could be it... this could be paradise on earth... Once more, your pictures are fantastic of contrasts and vivid colors...Excellent work...
belido (19934) 2007-07-17 12:36
the colors are so vivid and natural that sometimes it looks like a 3d image and I can touch the grass, trully. I think that's the hardest point in photography, specially in internet posting: to get as close as possible to the natural view. That's what you get here. Very nice job!
rbcy1974 (20758) 2007-07-17 15:05
nice rich colours, great contrast
very nicely done
Angshu (52888) 2007-07-17 20:52
An idyllic place, as it appears. The dark clouds does well for the contrast. I like the hues and tones here. Good symmetry & details in this photo which typifies the spirit of TE.

So brit, so lovely !!
Well composed, well realized with an impressive dark sky. Simplicity can produce great shot.

It is seldom I go back on step among your posts, but this time I was quicker than your were to post a new picture. I am really impressed how you have been able to take so many photos with very favourable lighting in such a cloudy weather. This photo is no excepection. I really like your composition here, in particular the paths starting from each of the corner at the bottom. Seems to be a lot of manors in this area. Have a nice evening!

Wonderful cottage with a beautiful garden, great composition with the grey sky and the lovely colors in the foreground, very good POV and frame. Well done.

I get a wonderful feeling from this one from the balance of the beautiful kept garden against the disrepair of the roof and the ominous sky .. wonderful image.

Beautiful warm colours for a charming place to live, you obviously know these surroundings well to portray them as eloquently...
Very nice atmosphere,
