Walking through The New Forest late afternoon, especially in parts where it's quite dense, for me has quite a mystical feeling, and capturing this on film is often quite difficult in terms of producing the right result. For some you may feel this is a bit dark, but this is how i saw the image in my mind when i took it, and i hope some of you will feel the same mystical quality as i do.

Derek, please tell us how you got this brilliant green color in the dark forest. Something about your settings other than the polarizer? I have looked at your pictures and I am impressed with your use of color.

I think I'm one of those people who think this is too dark, although I can see what you wanted to achieve and that has worked well. Maybe something to do with fear in dark forests that I see spookiness, instead of mysticism. It would be a good advert for "Scary Movie". The vivid green you have captured is really drawing my eye, especially the zig-zag bit which is placed on the #1 "magic spot". I suppose my verdict is - not entirely to my taste, but you have achieved your intentions.

Total abstraction, strong dark atmosphere, a "risky" post but a strong one. Mystical as you say...

Derek,
Very interesting - and don't hold back with those experimental shots because some of us, well, a few of us, well, one or two us - love seeing them! :)
Personally, on this shot, I don't think it's too dark, it's just not quite - I'm not sure what the word is, but it might be "photographic" enough for me. It looks more like a piece of hand drawn artwork.
However, I can also see that there's a mood in there which you were trying to catch, and that you have caught, at least to your own satisfaction!
Best regards
Colin

Hi Derek,

Oh man .. as a lover of dark images I love this .. I have tried to take images that communicate the dark dense feeling of the forest .. but never have I come close to this ... the combination of saturation and darkness is mystic and evocative .. I love it.

take care,

John

Hello Derek!
I like this work!
It's extraordinary view!
It looks like magic forest from fairy-tale!
Great work!
Best regards!

Derek,
no question about the mystical atmosphere. You really got it exactly as you described it in your note. A perfect blend that reminds me a lot of some fairy tales. I wonder about the technical details that you used to achieve this eerie impression.
Regards, Peter

Hi Derek,

Interesting unusual result you got here. I like the 'stamp' effect you got. The bright green adds to the resut.

Cheers,

Flavia
