Photographer's Note
This shot was taken in Yorkshire Dales NP exactly 2 years ago. I've been going through my older shots.. as there is not really much to do during the hot summer evenings here (temperatures are way above 40C already)... and was dreaming about green, wild, 3D landscape. Luckily I don't have to wait too long as I am going for trip to Pakistan next week and hoping for some great shots over there. For now I just have to remind myself how dramatic moment nature can create.
Lucie
PS : I realize that the tree should have bit more space from the frame, however this shot was taken 2 years ago, and we all learn to see better and more with every new photo we take. And I've taken some more since :-)

Dag Lucie,
Heavy contrast, with deep saturated colours. That sky is really coming in to the scenery. Great exposure on the existing sunlight on the greens. Good composed, although the tree is touching the edge, i really like the overal scene...wonderful.
Mooie foto...prima werk.

What a beautiful light you've got here! Everything transforms under this light, glowing: the grass, the tree, even the stones. And this, contrasting to what seems to be a stormy sky.

Hello Lucie,
Bravo !

Hi Lucie,
This is a fantastic image with great contrast between the lush greenery and the dark, stormy clouds. The sunlight on the foreground grassy area works exceptionally well with darker shadowed areas in the image. Great composition, great clarity and overall a great shot. Yes, the high temperatures in the Gulf summers take some time getting used to...if you ever do. Enjoy Pakistan.
Cheers Grant

Wonderful shot Lucie! The dark sky really gives this a dramatic feel. It's funny that you mention that we all learn, and that when we go back and look at older photos we see things that we didn't notice before. I know that happens to me; I go through older shots that I really liked at the time, and now I only see problems and things that I would do better. In a way it's good, because it shows that we are improving, raising our standards and making pictures better and better. It's all part of the journey that makes photography so interesting. Have fun in Pakistan and be sure to show us some of the photos!

Hi Lucie,
Wow, what amazing light! You sure know how to be in the right place at the right time. This picture is dynamic, moody, egaging... heck it sucked me into it to go for a quick stroll through my imagination. Simply wonderful.

The contrast between the sunlit landscape and the moody sky gives this image a lot of impact, although the sky does look a bit overdone to me. Maybe that's how it was.
As you say in your note, a gap between the tree and the edge of the frame would have been good, but I also think you could have done more with the foreground. I think it needs something to break up the green space on the right, and maybe getting closer to the wall or changing your shooting position slightly would have worked better.
Have a great time in Pakistan Lucie.
Cheers,
Ben

A typically dramatic image of this sort of day in the UK Lucie - the contrast is OK but perhaps a little predictable with this sort of shot and I'm sure there's an equally good and more subtle shot underneath this - not that the light can't be like this perfectly naturally but it just seems pushed to punch when it might have been a little more laid back........

Hi Lucie
I can't resist photos taken in my favourite kind of light with those really dark clouds contrasting with the bright green grass. The details of the wall and fence are so sharp. THe space between the frame and the tree is only a couple of mm so it's OK.
Enjoy your trip to Pakistan.

The master of light. I love how the sky is so dark in the background and yet this hill is so nicely lit. I guess this is nature’s game you are referring to in your title. Simple and beautiful shot.

Ryan
P.S. I hope you have great trip to Pakistan, and won't it be nice to get away from the scorching heat of Kuwait.

Hi Lucie. you do work the light to your advantage and this is very moody with that dark sky. I appreciate this composition with this wall which gives a good depth to the landscape. Very fine work..

What a beautiful place, I have taken many shots of the Yorkshire Dales in the past. You have have managed to capture one those moments in the UK when we have sunshine and thick clouds giving it a dramatic effect. Well captured and presented. TFS
