Until the Second World War Shrovetide and Easter skipping was popular all over the country ... Shrovetide skipping has recently been revived at Alciston and Piddinghoe in Sussex, and is still practised in Scarborough, Yorkshire, where mass skipping with long ropes takes place on the Foreshore Road."

“… We formed gangs with neighbouring children and played in the street until dark. Games such as, 'What time is it Mr Wolf?', Giant Strides and Fairy Steps, Hop Scotch, whip and top, marbles and skipping. A long rope was used for skipping, turned at each end by one of the gang, the rest of us queued up waiting our turn to dodge into the moving rope and skip to the chant of, 'Salt, mustard, vinegar pepper,' when the rope would be speeded up and the skipper kept going for as long as possible as the rope slapped the road under her feet.

They were wonderfully happy, carefree days for us children…”

Hello Robert, I like much the picture that you have obtained, the frame is good with the empty space to the right giving site so that the girl continues jumping.
The light and the colors also this good balances.

Congratulations.

Regards.

Some things are always the same...fortunately :)
I love the moment captured and nice, warm predominant tones in the image that match the mood intended (I guess). A bit more space under her feet maybe? Anyhow, lovely work.

Haha, Robi, This one is so sweet, her concentration, the lovely freezeframe on this girl clearly immersed in skipping, her hair flowing in the air... very nicely caught moment, this time without the morose parents...;-)
Imagine, Kev has just fished out one of my old shots, with a similar topic :-)-- Synchronicity!
good morning from Ottawa

Hi Robi,

Great capture, you certainly get the feeling she is enjoying herself. I like the way you have positioned her to the left, using space in the shot to emphasise the subject.

Best regards,
Paul.

I like the POV - though the car wheels are a little distracting - well caught action, good note too :)

Hi Robert
Now I am the one with no spare time.I see that you have been quite busy lately and this picture is a joy to my eyes.I remember watching my younger sisters and their friends jumping and dancing to the cord,I had fun making it go always faster...
You did here a very good action shot at a good moment as she is flying through the air,and suspended there. You left her room enough to go into.
Too bad she is playing in the street, might e dangerous...
Have a good WE
Charles

Super shot, Robert, with these colors that give it a timeless feel. Your timing was spot on - could not have wished for more.
You must have added the "grain" on purpose, cuase that's not Canon DSLR behaviour at iso 200...;o)
Cheers,
Francis
