This tree though quite spindly had cracked through the middle of a sizeable rock. I love seeing gnarled trees popping up in random places.

This is the only tree in this area, all that surrounds in close proximity is bracken bushes and scattered rocks. There are trees a few hundred yards away, but are ferns not this type.

I don't know how well you feel the atmosphere of the landscape, I know I remember it being bitterly cold in the harsh wind though a little warmer when sheltered behind the rocks and in the suns wintery light.

I highly recommend Dartmoor for a trip, either for walking which is the perfect hobby for this area or for a spot of photography, there are so many subjects to utilise.

I wasn't sure whether to call this image 'Tree of Life', as I thought it was the name for a tree in Africa which stands a religious symbol for the people who live around it, so my other name was 'Gnarled Tree'. Now I learn that this name is a universal term I have decided to leave it as tree of life.

*I know there is some glare on the right, but if anything I think it might add some more atmosphere to the image.

Hi James, amazing view, with the lonely tree and miles and miles of hills ans palteau evrywhere.
good light and excellent POV.
thanks, ciao

Very biblical! I love dramatic skies and the foreground interest here makes for a very strong image. I also have a tree and sky image in my gallery (a little different style though). Great job.

Hi James
Well done . This is a real pleasure to the eye. Composition is great. The tree looks stark but has come through its labour.

Hi James.
I like the composition here. The endless plains with the solitary and bare tree up front. I would suggest just cropping a little of the top to give the tree and the plains a better focus and at the same time getting rid of some of that flare on the right hand side.

Regards

Cato

I feel like I'm there, all right. Wonderful mood piece.

I notice the sun glare on the right -- did you take one with the sun and crop it out? The white halo sort of makes the lack of sun like something missing.

But I do love it!

Hi James

Great shot again, i know Burrator pretty well, i camped out overnight by the reservoir just under Sheeps Tor and man was it cold! Wish i lived as close as you, i try to go bouldering and walking there as often as possible. You should check out Dewerstone Rock...i have some pics on TN if you're interested.

Keep 'em coming

Paul

Hi James

Hy James
Great picture, all in one...just perfect!

Hi James you can almost feel the cold!Good POV and good composition; the light is good too the way that it highlights the rocks and catches some of the clouds. The tree shows how windy it can be up there; it completes the scene.TFS,

Nice composition! The tree at the exactly right place, I think

The shape of the tree, its placement in the frame is just superb. I like the gradual the blue color creates in the sky.
Fine shot!

well James.
I like the shot, the composition is very nice and you had a good pov, the light is to heavy and that's a shame. I think a carper format will made it better. then is the damage of the light not so strong. Farthe a good eye for a good composition, well seen and well done.

Hello James
The landscape looks harsh as you said. You've composed the shot very well with the almost barren tree grabbing the attention, placed so well in the frame. IMO it may be better to crop a bit on the right & increase the contrast a lttle bit to show the FG. But compositionwise this is top notch..well captured

Hi James,
Great result with this composition, very original tree and lovely colours for this landscape, good pov.

Hi James! Exceptional composition. Your tree gives you a sense of freedom and loneliness. I like the sharpness and the perpsective of you photo. Very nice!

Ilias

I like the nature, the lonely tree in the left in good composition, good work.
